Fairview Park is a prominent green space located in Dublin 3, just north of the city centre near Clontarf. Spanning approximately 20 hectares, the park offers a diverse range of amenities and holds significant historical and cultural importance.

🌳 Park Features & Amenities

Fairview Park caters to visitors of all ages with its extensive facilities: • Playground: A large, modern playground designed to engage children. • Skatepark: One of Dublin’s few skateparks, suitable for skaters of various skill levels. • Sports Fields: GAA and soccer pitches available for both casual and organized games. • Walking Paths: Tree-lined paths ideal for walking, jogging, and dog walking. • Floral Displays: Seasonal flower beds that enhance the park’s natural beauty. • Band Pavilion: A venue for occasional live music performances. • Live Willow Zen Garden: A tranquil area for relaxation and reflection. • I-Play Area: An interactive fitness zone designed to engage visitors in active play .

Adjacent to the park, across the railway line, are additional facilities including a 400-meter all-weather athletics track and five-a-side football pitches. Nearby, Bram Stoker Park at Marino Crescent commemorates the author of Dracula, who was born at No. 15 Marino Crescent .

🕰️ History & Cultural Significance

Originally a tidal mudflat, the area was reclaimed through landfill in the early 1900s and transformed into a public park in the late 1920s .

A notable feature within the park is the Seán Russell monument, erected in 1951 to honor the former IRA leader. The statue has been a focal point for various commemorations and discussions due to Russell’s controversial historical associations .

The park also holds significance in Ireland’s LGBTQ+ history. In 1982, Declan Flynn, a young gay man, was tragically murdered in Fairview Park. His death became a catalyst for the country’s LGBTQ+ rights movement, leading to the first major Pride march in Dublin and ongoing efforts to combat homophobia .

🎶 Events & Accessibility

Fairview Park has evolved into a vibrant venue for live music and cultural events. In recent years, it has hosted concerts featuring artists like Ben Howard, The Prodigy, and Tom Grennan. These events are typically held at the Annesley Bridge end of the park .

The park is easily accessible via public transportation. The Clontarf Road DART station is a short walk away, and several Dublin Bus routes, including the 14, 15, 27, 42, and 130, serve the area .

📍 Visiting Information • Location: Fairview, Dublin 3, Ireland • Opening Hours: Vary seasonally; typically from 10:00 AM to between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM, depending on the month . • Contact: Phone: +353 1 222 5278 | Email: [email protected]

Unbelievable park, great for practising cartwheels. Recently I’ve taken up cartwheeling and I’ve gotten to the stage where I can do 10 in a row (I’m 63) and I put it all down to the wonderful Fairview park. Lots and lots of space and hopefully I’ll be able to cartwheel 20 times in a row soon. Also you can do a wee if you need to down the back on the dart station wall! There is a man called Paul that lives there though so make sure you don’t piss on him. I met Paul through our mutual interest in cartwheels. Paul can do 17

The park is incredibly beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. It has plenty of playgrounds for kids and areas for athletes. There's a basketball court, a skateboarding area, a football pitch, and even a hurling field. There are also large grassy areas where you can sit and relax, making it a great place for outdoor exercise. One day when I visited, a hurling match was taking place, and we watched it for a while—it was really interesting. Overall, it's a big, lovely park with a safe and peaceful atmosphere.

Fairview is a beautiful place, there's cycling, green grassy areas and walking paths. Dedicated play area just for kids. A basketball, dog-wallking, skateboarding, and many soccer, frisbee, and training areas for all to enjoy. Many of the bench seated areas have been destroyed by vandalism. An update is badly needed in that area. Overall its a great place for all.to enjoy
