My husband and I really enjoyed exploring the grounds as well as taking the guided tour of the rebuilt interior. The cost for the tour is 5 euro. There is a free room that gives the history of the tower house as well as a model of the tower to the left of the counter where you purchase tickets. They prefer for you to pay in euros. You can attempt to use a card but itay or may not work depending on the cloud cover according to the clerk. You are not allowed to take pictures inside the tower. There is a cafe outside with picnic tables. We found a path on the other side of the cafe into the woods just a bit and you could get closer to the edge of the water for pictures and enjoy the view. There were ducks and swans at the edge of the water. Very...

Ross castle was a really neat tour. A tower house, it has several beautiful rooms semi-staged for the period which you can see on guided tour. No photos allowed inside, we found it nevertheless to be well worth the stop for the tour.

The tours leave on the hour, and we missed it by 5 minutes so we ended up just walking the grounds and sitting by the water enjoying the scenery. We enjoyed the short break, and though the tour was well worth the wait.

If I recall correctly, our tour guide's name was Collin, and he did a great job explaining not only the history of the region, families who inhabited the house, the room adornments, lifestyles of the families, and the historical renovation process. He was quite humorous too, and it was a great...

I’ll preface by saying we arrived at the castle based on data from Google Maps which showed the castle cost 5.50€ per person and was open until 5:45pm. We arrived at 4:45pm to a completely closed castle and we were not the only ones confused. A group of other people were also trying to figure out how to enter. At the front of the building is a sign that states the castle closes at 5pm and the last admittance is an hour before closing, so 4pm.

The visit was not completely lost as we did have absolutely stunning views and were able to view the castle from the exterior.

The surrounding area is severely flooded though and inaccessible in some places. The grounds need more upkeep as I am not sure disabled folk are going to be able to get...

A trip to Killarney isn't complete without visiting the Ross Castle. The castle itself is in stunning location right on the shores of Lough Leane. What makes this a truly 5-star destination is everything else it offers. It’s the perfect hub for a fantastic day out. You can take a traditional horse carriage ride through the park, which is an unforgettable experience, could see some deers. Boat trips also leave from the pier right beside the castle, offering breathtaking views from the water. After exploring the castle, you are perfectly placed for a relaxing walk or a serious hike through the incredible scenery of Killarney National Park. It's a must-do for anyone visiting the area. Highly recommended!

We had a great time at Ross Castle! The tours run frequently and last about 45 minutes. It is also part of the OPW pass (would recommend purchasing). Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. She was able to answer every question asked and made sure everyone was safe on the stairs. There is no photography allowed inside, and there are quite a few narrow stairs to walk up and back down. They also have a small café behind the castle with delicious drinks and light lunch options. We visited on a rainy day, and they have a lovely little picnic house with plenty of seating to eat out of the rain. Definitely worth a visit!
