As Cobh, formerly Queenstown, was the last port of call of the RMS Titanic before she set sale to New York, the town has many memorials dedicated to the tragedy. This memorial, dedicated to the passengers of Titanic is located in the centre of town, at the corner of Pearse Square and West Beach. It's in the form of two plaques attached to the face of a large rectangular rough hewn granite slab which sits atop a cylindrical pedestal base.
The upper, circular plaque, carries a bas-relief scene depicting emigrants aboard a tender approaching the port-side of the Titanic's bow. In the foreground there' a male and female couple to the left and a single male to the right. In the scene's centre, there's a mother and three children with their backs towards us and with their baggage at their feet. The mother has her right arm across one of the smaller child's right shoulder. A second child has their right arm around the mother's waist, and the third and tallest child has his left hand up pointing at the ship. In the scene's background the Titanic is shown anchored in the harbour. They are all looking towards the Titanic. The lower, rectangular plaque, is inscribed with words commemorating the Titanic and her last port of call on her maiden and final voyage on 12 April, 1912 and in special memory to the Irish emigrants and all those passengers and crew who lost their lives in the Titanic tragedy. Below this is a Gaelic inscription, Ah dheis dé go raibh an anmacha, which translates as "At God's right hand are the souls".
The Memorial was erected by the Titanic Historical Society, the Irish Titanic Historical Society, and the people of Cobh. It was designed and crafted by local artist Michael Donovan, and unveiled...

Highly recommend it if you're interested in seeing and hearing more about the fate of...

It is helpful to purchase tickets online, in order to plan your day. A shout out to Jackie and Dee for sharing a little about themselves. Cobh in itself a very...
