Domodossola's "hidden" treasure!

Phyllis (?) enthusiastically greeted us at the entrance desk. Assuring us that even our limited time (less than an hour before our scheduled train departure) for a visit would be rewarding! She was absolutely correct! Grazie!

Amazing well-arranged collections of local "everything" . . . Regional art, local paleontology, local anthropology, local ornithology, burial site artifacts, early historic stilt houses, and more . . . Plus enough general site-descriptions orienting visitors to tour on their own many of the location-origins of these collections!

Condivido volentieri le mie esperienze a Palazzo San Francesco di Domodossola, nobile edificio ristrutturato e conservato in modo egregio. La prima visita è stata nel corso della mostra che si è chiusa recentemente. Salita al piano superiore ho scoperto il vasto e interessantissimo museo delle scienze naturali. Lo consiglio a tutti! La seconda mia visita è stata x accompagnare i miei nipotini (età scolare). Il museo spazia nel mondo della fauna locale (mammiferi, rapaci, rettili, insetti, farfalle etc), minerali e reperti storici autoctoni. Als je wat tijd moet doden in Domodossola is het een bezoek waard. Maar dit is geen 5 sterren museum, ondanks de vele lovende kritieken hier.

De begane grond is een mooie open ruimte. Hier vonden we een expositie van schilderijen ‘Tra Tiziano e Renoir’, maar zonder Renoir, Titiaan of een schilder die in de buurt kwam van hun niveau. Op de eerste verdieping opgezette dieren zonder al te veel uitleg. Deze verdieping deed denken aan een ouderwetse zoölogische afdeling. Geen interactie met het publiek, weinig uitleg.
