Example museum housed in the Norman Castle. A very impressive exhibition of ancient Greek items featuring an amazing sculptures sarcofigas, ceramics and helmets. We were especially enjoyed meeting Antonio who guided us around much of the ground floor. Antonio was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. il Museo archeologico nel castello normanno di Melfi, intitolato a "Massimo Pallottino", è una tappa fondamentale per conoscere la vicenda umana e storica, il patrimonio culturale di quella che oggi è la Basilicata. L'esposizione, ricca di reperti dall'età più antiche a quella greco-romana, ha pezzi rari o unici, alcuni particolarmente commoventi come l'intero corredo della principessa (Tomba 955, Ferentum/Lavello) e il bellissimo askos a tre bocche, sempre da Lavello, detto "Caterinella" con eccezionale raffigurazione di un corteo funebre in cui si individuano tradizioni cerimoniali diverse, daune e greche. La didattica del percorso museale, accompagnato da supporti video e fotografici, permette un approccio facile ma approfondito, introducendo a una zona ricchissima di scavi archeologici, borghi d'arte e castelli, inseriti in un paesaggio che si è abbastanza preservato da scempi ambientali ed edilizi.
