Milan has two world famous cathedrals - il Duomo and the San Siro. As I approached the stadium I couldn't help but think of Italia 90, Copa Mundials, Diego Maradona, that West Germany team, Toto Scillaci, Arrigo Sacchi's remarkable Milan team- there's plaques on the wall looming over you of famous European triumphs. Van Basten, Gullit, Baresi, Maldini cascading through my mind. Then the other side jumps in. The Milan derby, Fachetti, Zenga, Adriano, Milito's unexpected goal scoring feats, Eto'o, R9. Even the stadium itself - Giuseppe Meazza. This stadium's unique architecture evokes the history of football - coming to watch a game here, is a pilgrimage. I felt some reverence after passing the final wall when the square in front of the stadium opened out before me, having approached on foot from near the Lotto metro. The famous curving towers and four post roof, open on one side allowing a glimpse of the lighting array hanging from the ceiling. Daring those game enough to step forward and prove they are worthy. I couldn't help but smile. If you don't remember that AC Milan was founded in 1899 by the time you leave Milan, you must have had a great hotel. The stadium is huge. I have been to the Maracanã in Brasil, the Azteca in Mexico City and this has that same sense of physicality. It is a colossus, an imposing venue that overwhelms you. I bought a ticket to AC Milan vs Roma from footballtickets.net and it all was fine, just printed out the ticket PDF at the hotel and scanned it at the gate. Inside an hour before kickoff and the mood slowly built up. 15 mins to go and the away fans were singing. By kick-off it was a packed house, the Curva Sud in fine voice, huge flags dwarfing their owners, billowing out like sails - a red and black navy going to war. The pressure on the players is unforgiving. The expectations are immense. The fans are knowledgeable, they applaud that bit extra - not just what they all can do on a Sunday afternoon. You play on this hallowed turf because you are better than the rest of us. We come to watch what we could not. Then, suddenly the wall of silence is broken - the ball moves faster this time, the goal opens up and there's half a second before he hits it... HOOOOOO AAAAAAAAAHHH. A wall of sound crashes down on the away fans. They struggle underwater, until the wave subsides. An unforgettable experience if you're a football fan and a Milan win to top it all off. I could still hear the singing as I walked back...

San Siro Stadium, officially known as Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, is an absolute must-visit for any football fan traveling to Milan. Whether you support AC Milan, Inter Milan, or just love the game, stepping into this iconic arena is like walking into football history. With a capacity of over 75,000, it’s one of the largest and most legendary stadiums in Europe.

From the outside, the structure is massive and unique, with its spiraling towers and bold architectural design. Once you enter, the sheer scale and electric atmosphere immediately strike you—even when it’s empty. If you’re lucky enough to attend a match, the experience is unforgettable. The fans are passionate, the chants echo through the stands, and the energy is something you can feel in your bones.

The stadium offers a well-organized guided tour, which includes access to the changing rooms, press room, and the walk through the tunnel to the pitch. For football lovers, this is a special moment. You also get access to the San Siro Museum, which is filled with memorabilia from both clubs, including legendary jerseys, trophies, and photos dating back decades.

The tour is available in several languages and lasts around an hour. Tickets can be purchased on-site or online, and it’s advisable to book in advance during peak tourist seasons. The guides are knowledgeable and provide insightful anecdotes about the stadium’s past, the rivalries, and some of the historic matches held here.

The only downside is that some areas of the stadium are beginning to show their age. While it adds to the nostalgia for many fans, others may find parts of the infrastructure outdated compared to newer stadiums. Still, its iconic status more than makes up for it.

Access is fairly easy via public transport, with nearby metro and tram stops. There are also a few cafés and souvenir shops nearby where you can grab refreshments or pick up official merchandise.

All in all, San Siro is not just a stadium—it’s a temple of football. It’s a place where legends were made and unforgettable moments were born. Whether you take the tour or attend a match, visiting San Siro is an emotional and immersive experience that every sports enthusiast should have at least once in...

Our family recently visited the iconic San Siro Stadium, and despite the hefty entrance fee of approximately 88 EUR, the experience proved to be a thrilling adventure, especially for my football enthusiast son. As someone who isn't a die-hard football fan, I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer grandeur of the stadium. The aura and history that permeate the venue are palpable, making it an impressive sight for even those less inclined towards the sport. However, the real magic happened for my 10-year-old son, who was practically in heaven exploring the home of some of football's greatest legends. The guided tour, though not overly extensive, provided interesting insights into the stadium's rich history and showcased key areas, including the player locker rooms and the pitch itself. Our guide was knowledgeable and added a personal touch to the experience, making it engaging for both adults and kids. While the overall visit was well worth it, one aspect that left a slightly bitter taste was the expensive merchandise in the stadium shop. It's no surprise that sports memorabilia can be pricey, but the costs here felt notably steep. Families should be prepared for the temptation of indulging in fan gear but be cautious of the dent it might make in your wallet. In conclusion, San Siro Stadium is undeniably a must-visit for football enthusiasts and even those with a casual interest in the sport. The awe-inspiring atmosphere and the sheer magnitude of the venue make it a memorable experience for the whole family. Despite the high entrance fee and pricey merchandise, the joy it brought to my son made it a worthwhile outing that we'll remember for...
