Beautiful castle that nature has begun to take over! Park down in Polcenigo and walk up to the castle past the Convent building. It is a straight uphill walk on cobbled rock roads and can be a lot on a warm day. Not too bad though! The castle is beautiful and you can see the past shining through in the small remaining areas of marble wall decoration and even a small area of the flooring. There are a few fire places, as well as what we guessed was something similar to a Roman bath? Overall well...

Well-maintained (grass cut) and safe to visit (visible brickwork).
Its not your run-of-the-mill castle ruin, but a ruin of relatively modern palace. Traces of fireplace, half-columns etc. visible, add to the creepiness of the place, remind a bit of fortesque mansion from Chaos Engine. What appears to be a main/banquet hall or ballroom looks especially majestic.

Read moreIf you want to see some really cool ruins that have a gorgeous view you have to go here. The road up there is only room for one car so be prepared. Otherwise, you just park at the church below and hike up a cobblestone walk way for about 5 min and your there. It is a nice sized castle very close to Aviano. I would highly reccomend this trip to anyone. You have to see it...
