Castello dei Conti Guidi — Attraction in Poppi

We recently explored the Castello dei Conti Guidi in Poppi – and it was nothing short of extraordinary.

Both the castle and the area around it , enjoy a near-perfect maintenance; even the grass in the pit that surrounds the castle itself is mowned regularly. Entering the Castle is like making a trip through time, and being thrown into the dark ages. The audio-guide is fabulous but I am not sure if it is available in languages other than Italian; it's worth asking. We chose to ascend to the ancient Poppi from downtown not by car, but by "going medieval", through a limestone paved walkway. I don't advise you to do the same if you suffer fron any heart related conditions; it's a long way to the top , and you don't wonna rock 'n' roll all the way back to the bridge on...

Giunti a Poppi, sarebbe inevitabile e augurabile la visita al Castello dei Conti Guidi… la delusione è notare che anche solo per entrare nel castello c’è da pagare un biglietto che ritengo necessario solo in caso eccezionale di una mostra o un evento… mi dispiace ma non posso consigliare il luogo che sarebbe di assoluto riguardo per valore architettonico e storico. L’offerta di Poppi (come di altri paesi caratteristici della zona) si dimostra un po’ troppo tesa verso una ingenerosa offerta al turista, offerta spesso delocalizzata perché i prodotti e i servizi tipici del posto non sono mai un valore ben evidente, lasciando invece il posto a marchi e brand non autoctoni. Aggiornamento della recensione in seguito alla risposta del proprietario: essendo stato direttore di un museo (scientifico) e adesso (più per passione che altro) anche guida ambientale escursionistica (ovviamente con tessera della Regione Toscana), posso capire la risposta del "proprietario"... quindi comunico che ho visitato il Castello (con attenzione e cura dei dettagli per la conservazione e la valorizzazione del percorso e della struttura oltre che dei servizi): quindi ho leggermente modificato la mia recensione (una stella in più della prima volta) pur restando del mio parere che il Castello dovrebbe offrire un ingresso gratuito e, una volta che il visitatore è entrato, una bigliettazione diversificata per l'offerta che predilige.
