Fountain of the four horses — Attraction in Rimini

Fountain dei quattro cavalli (Fountain of the Four Sea-horses)

This fountain was created by a sculptor from Rimini, Filogenio Fabbri, and was unveiled on 29th June 1928. But its existence since then has not all been plain sailing. The mountain was removed in 1954, following the Second World War. On that occasion, the large bath was demolished and the sea-horses transferred to other locations: three of them were relocated to Parco Marecchia and one to the adjoining land at the aqueduct. In 1983, after a long struggle, Umberto Bartolani and the sculptor’s daughter, Fausta Fabbri, managed to have the fountain restored to its original location. The main bath is round and symbolizes the sea, from which four seahorses rise up. These snort water from their nostrils and support another bath on their heads, containing a central water jet which sprays water high into the air. La Fontana dei Quattro Cavalli, si trova all’interno del Parco intitolato a Federico Fellini, a Marina Centro di Rimini, non lontano dal “Grand Hotel Rimini”, tanto amato dal grande regista riminese.

La fontana venne scolpita dal riminese Filogenio Fabbri su disegno di un altro concittadino Gaspare Rastelli e venne inaugurata nel 1928.

Uscì abbastanza indenne dalla seconda guerra mondiale, ma nel dopoguerra venne smontata, non sono riuscito a sapere per quale morivo.

Solo nel 1983 grazie all’opera di Umberto Bartolani e della figlia dello scultore Fausta Fabbri la fontana fu ricollocata dov’era posta originariamente e dove ancora oggi la possiamo ammirare nella sua possente bellezza.

La Fontana, funzionante, ha una grande vasca circolare a fior di terra, dalla quale emergono quattro possenti cavalli marini, dalle cui narici sgorga l’acqua, i quali sorreggono un bacino circolare al centro del quale è presente un boccaglio dal quale fuoriesce un alto zampillo sommitale.

Sulla parete della vasca vi sono due targhe con le seguenti iscrizioni:
