This place was ok, not a whole lot to see, paid ¥300 to get in. Everything is in Japanese, it cool to look at old pictures and drawings but unfortunate not to be able to learn about the history. Wish there was some English...

赤穂市歴史博物館にも寄りました。

赤穂と言えば、思い浮かべるのが｢赤穂浪士｣と｢赤穂の塩｣ですが、この博物館では｢塩と義士の館｣の愛称があり、元禄赤穂事件と弥生時代から続くと言われる赤穂の製塩の歴史にまつわる貴重な史料が展示されています。

1989年に、赤穂浪士と塩をメインのテーマに設立されたそうです。 1階には国から重要有形民俗文化財に指定されている製塩用具等、塩作りにまつわる貴重な文化財が数多く展示され、2階には赤穂の義士に関する資料と赤穂城と城下町、それに赤穂の上水道に関する展示があります。

長い歴史を持つ赤穂の塩作りの中で、製塩の方法も進化し、使われる道具も工夫が重ねられてきたようです。 今でこそ工場で大量に生産されるようになり、赤穂の中でも製塩に携わっている人は往時ほど多くはないものの、どれほどたくさんの人が製塩に携わってきたのか、赤穂と塩の関わりの深さを改めて知ることができます。 塩業に関わる文化財だけではなく、忠臣蔵の義士の浮世絵も数多く収蔵され、赤穂の歴史に関する貴重な史料...
