Great viewing point! It's quite high up and you can see so far. The viewing platform is currently under construction (from July 13, 2021 - March 18, 2022) so unfortunately we weren't able to get the iconic image (plus there was a lot of cloud coverage). When the platform opens again next year, we're definitely planning to go again, maybe even during Cherry Blossom season!

When you go up, keep going until you reach the large parking lot. If you can park there, it'll save you probably 10-15 minutes of walking and it starts you about 1/3 of the way up the steps. As far as I could tell it's also free parking. Go up the stairs right across the parking lot and you'll see a shrine. Then you can choose to continue taking the steps or the paved path.

You can walk the steps which is definitely a stair master but it's quite short starting from the large parking lot rather than all the way at the bottom. If you have a stroller or would like to skip the stairs, there's a paved path that runs next to the steps (you can see where the steps and paved paths touch in my image). The paved path is blocked off so vehicles can't go up.

Drones are not allowed and there may be bears and monkeys in the area. Also watch out for leeches as they're crawling all over, especially when it's wet. Spray yourself liberally with bug spray too. Sooo many mosquitoes.

The pagoda does indeed look smaller in person than in the pictures but it's still pretty. And in case anyone is wondering about the significance of the pagoda, I copied/pasted this info from their website:

"The Fujiyoshida Cenotaph Monument, also known as the Chureito Pagoda, was built by the mayor of Fujiyoshida and the Fujiyoshida Cenotaph Monument Construction Committee on August 12th,1958 to enshrine about 960 citizens from Fujiyoshida who died in the wars which occurred after 1868(the First Sino-Japanese War,the Russo-Japanese War,World WarⅠ,and the Pacific War of World WarⅡ).

The committee sold the former Shimoyoshida Veteran Grove to the Onshirin Regional Public Organization and received 3 million yen which was in turn used as the fundamental funds for the construction of the monument; furthermore, the remaining shortage of funds were donated by citizens. The construction commenced on April,1959 and completed on...

I had the incredible opportunity to visit Chureito Pagoda on April 15th, right in the heart of the cherry blossom season — and it was truly a dream come true. Located in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, this iconic spot offers one of the most breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, beautifully framed by a sea of blooming sakura (cherry blossoms).

The climb to the pagoda, with about 400 steps, was a bit challenging but absolutely worth every step. Along the way, the path was lined with stunning cherry blossom trees in full bloom, creating a magical pink tunnel. When I reached the main viewing platform, the view took my breath away: the vibrant five-storied Chureito Pagoda, the delicate pink cherry blossoms, and the majestic, snow-capped Mount Fuji standing proudly in the background. It looked exactly like a picture from a postcard — if not better.

The atmosphere was peaceful and lively at the same time. Even though many visitors were there, it never felt too crowded, and everyone respected the serene beauty of the place. I recommend visiting early in the morning to enjoy a quieter experience and the best light for photography.

Apart from the famous viewpoint, there are a few hidden spots nearby that offer unique angles of the pagoda and Mount Fuji. I also explored the nearby Arakura Sengen Shrine, which added a peaceful, spiritual touch to the visit.

Helpful Tips: • Aim to arrive early to avoid heavy crowds. • Wear comfortable walking shoes for the stair climb. • April 15th was perfect for full bloom — but it’s always good to check the bloom forecast in advance. • A clear day makes all the difference for seeing Mount Fuji clearly. • Bring a good camera — every angle here is picture-perfect.

Overall, visiting Chureito Pagoda during cherry blossom season was an unforgettable experience. The combination of natural beauty, traditional architecture, and the stunning backdrop of Mount Fuji made it feel like a scene straight out of a...

A Postcard Perfect Moment (Especially at Sunset!)

Okay, let's be real – everyone's seen those iconic photos of the Chureito Pagoda with Mount Fuji looming majestically in the background. But let me tell you, experiencing it in person is something else entirely. Yes, there are a lot of steps, and your calves will definitely feel it the next day. But trust me, every single step is worth it. The climb itself builds the anticipation, and then you reach the top... BAM! That view. It's truly breathtaking. The sprawling township nestled below, the vibrant pagoda, and of course, the magnificent Mount Fuji standing proud and clear. We went during sunset, as recommended, and the golden light bathing the landscape was simply magical. The colours were unreal! It's the kind of view that makes you feel small and awestruck by nature's beauty.

One of the best things was how easy it was to get to and park. Unlike some popular spots, parking was a breeze. There's a huge open space right next to the pagoda entrance, so no stressing about finding a spot.

And don't just rush up and down! Take some time to explore the temple at the base. It's a peaceful and serene place, and a nice contrast to the bustling viewpoint. I highly recommend taking a moment to participate in the ritual of washing your hands with the natural mountain water. It felt refreshing and added a touch of cultural immersion to the experience.

My tips: ~Go at sunset! The light makes the view even more spectacular. ~Wear comfortable shoes! Those steps are no joke. ~Bring a camera! You'll want to capture this moment. ~Take your time! Enjoy the temple and the atmosphere.

Don't forget to hydrate! Overall, the Chureito Pagoda is an absolute must-see if you're visiting the Mount Fuji area. It's a relatively easy and rewarding experience that offers one of the most iconic and stunning views in Japan. Highly...

The reason why I will never go back to Fuji is because… I am still financially recovering 😉, but I completely lost my heart to this beautiful piece of the world! Here are a few things you HAVE to do while traveling to Fuji: 🚎 Take the bus from Mishima to Fujiyoshida - it’s the best way to get here and costs around $16. 🚴‍♀️Rent a mountain bike - it’s the best way to see as many places like Lake Kawaguchiko, Chureito Pagoda, and Shimoyoshida Honcho Street 📌 📸 Of course, you need to visit one of the famous Lawson markets at Kawaguchiko. The best time is during sunset because then it’s not crowded anymore. 🍜 You must have lunch at the very traditional restaurant Kosaku Kawaguchuko. They are known for their suiton soup with handmade noodles - they are so good! 🇯🇵 Heading to Japan soon? Save and share this to help plan your trip! Need more Japan ideas? We’ve got you covered!
