FOR HOTEL GUESTS 2ND FLOOR:
The toilet is shared with all staff and customers of the restaurant 10:00 - 17:00. The toilet, wash basin and shower are all on the first floor opposite to each other, which means that after your shower you might run into random visitors to the restaurant.
I had to get a lot of alcohol rub and toilet seat cleaner before I could use the facilities. Basically a clean freak’s nightmare.
The 2nd floor does not have a lock to the traditional sliding doors. In a hypothetical sense, your luggage is not secured. Main entrance also feels vulnerable, I was scared when the restaurant closed, but other tourists kept on knocking and yanking the 1st floor door. During business hours, you could hear all chatter and sounds from the kitchen/restaurant. Barely any privacy provided.
This place is very close to the Arakura Sengen Shrine for your instagram-worthy photo shoots, however.
The only things that were nice about 2nd floor guesthouse: staff were friendly. Bed linens were clean.
BTW Fujiyoshida is really not worth staying consecutive nights over. Please just base yourself in Yokohama or Tokyo if you want to see Mount Fuji - that’d save you so much money and hassle. Overall housing quality in Fujiyoshida seems to be really poor - unless you’re willing to pay $600 per night over there. At least, the owner told me that I expected too much with their place. I call it misinformation as nobody mentioned on the listing that you don’t really have your private facilities.

Read moreI stopped by Guesthouse Arakura for a quick lunch after visiting the Chureito Pagoda. It was a great location, just opposite the train station, so was easy to find.
It was a popular place, and luckily we timed it right and got a table pretty quickly as a queue built up - but I can see why it’s so popular!
It felt very traditional, with a great menu of local dishes and drinks. You sit on the floor and take your shoes off when in the restaurant, which is very novel for us in the UK, but added to the experience.
I ordered the Japanese Karaage Curry with chicken, and it also came with rice and salad. It was really flavoursome and the curry sauce was really well balanced. The chicken was definitely the highlight, with a light and crispy batter.
It was great value too for the quality and the quantity, and definitely one of the nicest meals I had whilst visiting Tokyo. If you’re exploring the local area, make sure you stop by and...
Read moreWe ordered Ramen and Rice Curry. The taste was good. BUT... 1.) The pieces of pork that I got for Ramen were TOO SMALL as you can see in the picture. (Comparing to picture in the menu) That made me disappointed🥲 With small 3 pieces of Pork Scraps, I think it's expensive for the price of 900Yen
2.) We also ordered "Pork curry and rice + Salad" menu. We came around 2:00 pm so the rice was out of their stock. So they offer us to have Ramen Noodle instead of rice for the rice curry menu and we had to pay 200 yen more for the noodle (instead of rice) So the price was 950 yen plus 200 yen. Total was 1,150 yen. We accepted that. BUT when the food came, there were no Salad. We asked them where is our salad because the menu said we would get salad in the set. They said there is no salad for us. If we want a salad, we have to pay more! That made us curious. Finally, we showed them their menu then they...
