The hakone botanical garden is a delightful place, which recreates the original wetlands of the area. This is not a very exciting place for kids, but if you're interested in nature or just like a nice stroll, the botanical gardens is for you. They have plenty of flowers on display throughout the growing seasons and good chances to see frogs, insects, crayfish, lizards and birds. We went through the entire garden in about 30-40 minutes and our highlight was this bird, that we've spotted in the midst of the area (there were at least 2 birds, but we only managed to spot one). The COFFEE PLACE of the botanical garden however is AMAZING. Food is great. Music is great. And coffee is delicious. Very different from anything we’ve had in Japan.
