Fukiage Shrine — Attraction in Imabari

Shrine located in / next to Imabari Castle. The view of the castle, especially in the early evening is wonderful. The shrine is mostly concreted, but very well kept and has a small Inari Shrine next to it. There appears to have been a shrine here since the early 19th century, but was first destroyed during WW2 and then once again in 1980 due to an arson. Goshuin available at the shrine office on the other side of the castle.

廃藩にあたり、往古より今治市内に御鎮座をしていた“神明宮”、“蔵敷八幡宮”、“厳島神社”、“夷宮”の4社を、旧社地の故をもって今治城内に合祀社殿として造営。明治5年11月19日に遷座し、今治城の旧城名から“吹揚神社”と称しました。明治15年には愛媛県の県社となり、昭和14年に総台湾檜で新築しましたが、昭和20年の空襲で全焼してしまいます。その後、昭和33年に戦後復興を完了し、昭和47年には吹揚神社御鎮座100年祭を執り行うものの、城郭式神門、境内未社の新築改装後、昭和55年9月に放火にて再び本殿・拝殿が焼失。直ちに奉賛会が結成され。多数の方々の御奉賛とご協力のもと、昭和58年3月竣工し、現在に至ります。...
