Close by to the Naha Airport. The supermarket/grocer section is clean and orderly with different produce from Itoman farmers or other province. It is a farmers market so they included the name of farmer on the packaging of potato/spinaches. A lot people were seen buying leafy vegetable in bundles!
Across the produce section, there is a seafood section. It houses about 6 shops selling various seafood, raw and grilled or in soups. About $60 USD got us grilled half Lobster (tough, overcooked?), 3 broiled scallops on a stick, a mussel and clam covered in sea urchin sauce, a bowl of rice with sea urchin & an asari clam soup. With the exception of the clam soup, everything else was cold/semi-cold. Tourist prices & taste was 2/5. And the scariest part was the aftermath of my meal. After the meal, I headed straight to Naha Airport to catch a flight. Whilst walking through the airbridge to the plane, I vomited half of seafood breakfast and another half in the plane just before take off!! That was the most horrifying experience in travelling I've had to overcome.
The area was spacious with ample free parking, at least 10 table benches to eat, good rest stop for tourists or long distance drivers. There is a small Blue Seal counter and another...
Read moreThe seafood is fresh. We had Alaskan crab leg which cost ¥2,500 and tuna sashimi, grilled lobster, clams miso soup and egg spam rice sandwich. Do prepare small notes as my experience with one of the biggest stalls in the market, Second was rather confusing. I ordered the Alaskan crab and gave the cashier a ¥10,000 bill to which she rejected because she has limited change. I opened up my wallet and passed her all my coins and a ¥1,000 bill which was not enough for my purchase. She returned me all my coins and took my ¥10,000 but only gave me all my change in notes. Everything happened very fast but I suspect she missed returning another ¥500 to me. Hence, please prepare small notes for exact amount of purchase or at least minimize the risk of getting less change than what you deserve. Ambience on Monday afternoon was pretty nice with a Perusian band playing live music. Plenty of parking available and there is a gift shop to...
Read moreWe happened to find this market on the way back to return our rental car. I wish I could have visited this place sooner. As a sashimi and fresh seafood lover, this market is perfect. It offers several options for fresh sashimi and oysters. Based on what I saw, it mostly caters to both local and foreign tourists. Most of the retailers only accept cash, with perhaps only 2-3 accepting credit cards.
You can grab your food and eat in a semi outdoor seating area, which is quite large. I’ll make this market a priority next time we go to...
