I really enjoyed my time at Machi Japanese Academy. The teacher was very kind, patient, helpful and understanding, and I felt I learnt a lot and managed to improve my Japanese through his teaching. We studied a good mixture of kanji, grammar and vocabulary, and also practiced reading and writing short texts in the general course. I also had private lessons which I really benefitted from; we focused on subjects I struggled with and I learnt a lot in those sessions. Additionally, he sometimes organised communal lunches so we could experience different types of Japanese food (such as sushi, okonomiyaki, yakiniku etc.), and occasionally we also had special lessons (such as calligraphy). Furthermore, during my private Japanese lessons he was kind enough to occasionally give me small tours of places in Kanazawa (for example the Castle Park or certain museums) so I also got to know the city better, which I really enjoyed and was very grateful for. I also really liked the apartment I staid in. It had everything I needed, was comfortable and easy to keep clean, and well located – near the school as well as the Kenrokuen and Castle Park, where I often went for walks. All in all, I had a great time at MJA and would definitely...
Read moreI signed up for 2 classes hoping to improve my Japanese and prepare myself for the JLPT level N4! This class did that and so much more! The teacher, the experience, and the area that the school is in really made this class worth it.
The teacher is an amazing, caring teacher, with a ton of knowledge about the local area. Along with the teacher and other classmates, we went on many different tours that I wouldn't have known about if not for the teacher's recommendation! My favorite 2 tours we went on were a soba making experience and a sake factory tour!
The area was also wonderful. I also stayed at the student apartments that are available for students who don't live in Kanazawa. I also recommend this if you are coming from somewhere else! The apartments are fully furnished with a bed, desk, dishes, microwave, small fridge, etc.! Only a 15 minute walk away from the school. The location is right in the heart of Kanazawa with lots of shopping and museums really close by!
If you're looking to improve your Japanese and experience Kanazawa, I highly recommend this class. It was a truly memorable and fun experience and wasn't too bad...
Read moreI studied here for two months this spring, and also stayed in an apartment owned by the school. Ishimura-sensei is very responsive and accommodating, and all the organisation and scheduling went off without a hitch. As my lessons were individual, I was offered a lot of flexibility about which aspects of Japanese I wanted to work on, and thanks to Ishimura-sensei's dedicated work and excellent teaching, I made a lot of progress! I had a great time studying in Kanazawa and I'd definitely recommend this school to anyone looking for part-time...
