Visited the area for the Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival February 2023. I recommend going the third week of the festival which will ensure that 80% of the trees are blooming. Also, early morning viewing is best to beat the crowds, it usually starts getting busy around 10:30-11:00am. We stayed overnight as well which made it easier to rise very early the next morning and walk along the riverside. The walkway is a good stretch along the river and it’s totally lined with Kawazu cherry trees and street food vendors. It takes 2.5 hours of direct train from Tokyo. But seats are limited, it's better to reserve seat in weeks before. Driving to site is also suggested. Park lot is available, also parking lot is limited.
Just across the street of the train station, the journey of sakura festival begins. Under the tree line, stalls of food and local produces can be found.
The location is not spacious, there are not many places for sitting around. The place is crowded, but everything is in order - not a moment of chaos....
Read moreIt was a long way to go but it was interesting. There were three stops; strawberry picking, joren fall and kawazu sakura. The time at strawberry picking was not exactly 30 mins as about 20 mins only they directed us to go to the mini market for seeing souvenires which werent interesting to me, yet the strawberry was delicious. The joren fall is beautiful, so does the kawazu sakura. But as the location is quite far from Tokyo, the time at every destination was rushed. especially at kawazu sakura.
