Uroko House — Attraction in Kobe

Staff is polite and the house is objectively interesting both for domestic tourists and foreigners curious to see a European style XIX century house in the middle of Japan. But the price is quite notable compared to how much you actually get to see, and the souvenir shop doesn't accept credit cards below ¥1000. Also there's only one toilet (the whole area has very few public toilets due to its eccentricity and high altitude) and it's incredibly small and dense (but I still appreciate that it was there in the first place).

You might want to ask yourself how badly you want to visit this place, especially if it entails a detour...

うろこの家 was an isle west of 山手八番馆. It was a beautiful castle-shaped house, covered in a natural stone called slate, making it resembled the scales of a fish. It also had a large square garden. The view here was great to overlook the city and harbour. However, the Observation Gallery next to it provided a much more vast overlook. People said eyesight could reach Osaka. 坂道が…きつい！ けど登る価値はある、高台の異人館。 こちらはアニメ「Fate」のヒロイン、遠坂凛・間桐桜が住んでいる家のモデルです。

2020年には公式とコラボしていたようですが、2024年夏の平日に聖地巡礼しているオタクは少なく、家族連れや外国人観光客がまばらにいる程度でした。 それもそのはず。 真夏のうろこの家観光は、訓練兵のそれです。 たどり着くまでの坂道が…なんの鍛錬なんだこれは。

神戸って涼しい気がしていましたが（六甲山牧場のイメージで曲解）、熱気のこもる真昼間の道玄坂とあまり変わらない…むしろ傾斜が体感3倍きつくて暑い。急勾配が終わらない。お空青い

…と、くじけそうになりましたが、坂の上に着いてしまえば、頑張ってよかった〜！と心から思える美しい洋館が待っています。 ただし足腰の弱いご年配の方はやめておいたほうがいいです…週5でジム通いするアマゾネスこと私の足もガクガクでした。
