Tentoku-in Temple (Pilgrim's Lodging) — Attraction in Koya

Three guys staying for 1 night with dinner and breakfast included. It's important to note that the individual rooms do not have toilets, sinks, or bathing areas. These are all located in common areas. However, when the 3 of us were there, we were the only guests, so other than the extra steps to get to the bathing area and toilets, there was no issue. In fact, because we had access to the 4 toilets, we each were able to claim one and use it whenever we wanted. Do keep in mind that on more crowded days, this level of freedom may not be available. One toilet was not working in terms of the bidet, but we notified the staff and did not use that toilet for the remainder of our stay. Since there were three of us, we still got to keep our own private toilets. Another thing to note about the bathing area is that it is only open to guests at night, after a certain time. Before that time, it is reserved for people who are undergoing training and service as monks. The bathing areas are well furnished and very comfortable, even in the summer time. In fact, bathing is probably better at night during the summer since you are unlikely to sweat afterwards. Food is vegetarian and delicious. Plenty of rice is provided and you can get more if you need it. Plenty of water and green tea, as well. Very unfriendly woman at the reception. Corridors are freeze, I was in February and a refrain to have a shower to avoid a flu... I saw two monks, no explanations about Buddhism, no one showing the temple. Worst value....

弘法大師御誕生千二百五十年記念の参拝で金剛峯寺(高野山)にお伺いし宿坊天徳院を利用し本堂での朝のお勤めにも参加させていただきました。 高野山真言宗の別格本山の寺格になります。 天徳院は天和八年(1622年)に加賀百万石前田家の第三代藩主、前田利常公夫人の珠姫(徳川幕府第二代将軍徳川秀忠の二女である千姫)の菩提所として創建されました。 「天徳院」とは珠姫の戒名になります、天徳院の御本尊は白河法皇の第四皇子覚法親王の尊信せられし「山越の阿弥陀如来」になります、阿弥陀如来が天から沢山の従者を連れて下界の亡くなった人の魂を迎えに来るという題材で描かれたもので、仏像ではなく掛け軸の御本尊です。 「天徳院」は兼好法師(吉田兼好)のゆかりの寺で、当初は西光院と称していた。 徳川幕府第五代将軍の徳川綱吉公の生母桂昌院殿により赤穂藩主浅野内匠頭長矩と四十七義士の位牌も祀られています。 天徳院の庭園は寺の創建と同じ四百年前に珠姫の墓地を荘厳するために造られた庭で、当時の名作庭家の小堀遠州の作と伝えられています、庭の面積は約千六百六十平米もあり高野山山内で唯一名勝重要文...
