The accommodation is centrally located in Koyasan, easy to reach by bus (and possible to walk back - all downhill - to Gokurakubashi train station if you only have a backpack). The staff is all very friendly. Highlights definitely are the (completely vegan) dinner and breakfast, with interesting flavors and textures. At an extra cost delicious plum wine and other alcoholic drinks are served. The morning ritual is nice and interesting to join, although there is little engagement. The stay doesn't really give you the feeling that you are staying in a temple, it's more like staying in a Ryokan. The room had no garden view, but just looked out on another building. All-in-all the AUD 600 charge for a simple room with private bathroom was (even considering half board and morning ritual) by far the most expensive accommodation I had during my 17 day trip in Japan for a room that was average and had no comfortable bed. Free parking is available.
The only draw back is the rooms do not have a shower and you can only shower in the onsen public facilities. They do have a curfew where the gates are locked at 9pm and you will not be able to go back...
