Chuoshokudo Sanbo — Restaurant in Koya

This is an informal, family-style shojin ryori restaurant. Shojin ryori is the traditional vegetarian cuisine common in Buddhist temples an monasteries (warning: this is not what many people in the West would consider vegetarian or vegan, since the soup can be made with fish stock. Place you go, custom you find, and it costs you nothing to ask if that's a problem for you). Service is brisk and the space unpretentious. Singularity, the dishes are good, though in my opinion not the best shojin ryori one can find, but a good "entry point" into this type of cuisine. The rice was very good too, which for me is always a good indication of the overall quality and care placed in the preparation...

If you wanna try traditional Buddhist vegetarian meals you should definitely come here. The menu is in English and although the staff doesn’t speak English, they will make a great effort to understand you. Good price with options...

I loved it. I'm not vegetarian, yet I found myself in love with the food. The food is made to order and hot. There are lots of different tofu I tried and immensely enjoyed. The staff is very friendly, the place is small...
