I want to give this place 5 stars but I have legitimate complaints.
I have been wanting to come here since I moved to Kumamoto. But they make it near impossible to plan for a movie. That is my first and very major complaint. They give next to zero lead time about what movies are coming and when.
I saw Phsyco Goreman on bluray when it came out but really wanted to see it in theatre when it finally came out. I look up where. And had to drive all the way to Kagoshima.
A couple weeks later I look at Denkikan and see that they had the movie. But didn't advertise it until well after the other trip was planned. Until after the other theatre already had dates and time up. Denkikan made no notice it was even getting the movie. And... It happened again.
I really wanted to see Possessor. I look it up. And it's coming out in March in Japan. This time Denkikan is listed. No mention when on their website. We call. "We are getting it, don't know when". March comes around we call, "we are getting in April, don't know when." It's one week till April, it's on their coming soon page, no times or dates. Finally, dates and time are up 1 week before the movie play... 1 week! Movie night is a big deal for a lot of people, and in Japan people usually make plans months in advance. And they only play many movies for 6 or 7 days,.often only once a day. So if you don't check their website every week, good luck finding a movies. It's like they only want people that just come every so often and watch what ever that have playing. Becuase it's near impossible to actually plan what you want to see. Their coming soon page is like a month out. With no dates.
The theater itself is okay. Clean. About 90 seats,.nice seats. Good sound for a small theater like this. But the screen could be bigger. We sat in the second row, and it was fine I could have easily done the first row. If i was in the back half of the theatre I would just as rather watch on my 65inch OLED. I have seen all these movies on American bluray already. But want to see some of them in the theatre. Which only seems worth it here if you get to sit in the first few.rows.
Kinda glad we saw PyschoGoreman in Kagoshima becuase it was at a normal huge sized regular theatre showing all the other big named movies.
My last gripe. The screen had two vertical lines on it that I found slightly distracting.
I'll be back.... Watching that stupid website every week, because I love going to the theatre and seeing horror flicks. But...
