Kurayoshi Figure Museum (Former Meirin Elementary School) — Attraction in Kurayoshi

The Kurayoshi Figure Museum was founded as an initiative to save the city's beloved, but vacant, round school building from demolition. It has been fully renovated and equipped with modern facilities, now hosting around 2000 different figures in all shapes and sizes as well as two shops for local souvenirs and, of course, figures. The museum is a stunning building on the inside, as much as on the outside, with its spiral staircase and fan-like rooms. I enjoyed the variety on display, which consisted not only of figures based on pop culture but also of animals, dinosaurs, and more. There is also a room where you can freely pick up and pose the figures to create unique pictures. One of the rooms is fitted as a classroom from the 1950s, and you can even get up to the roof and get a 360-degree view of the surroundings.

Tickets are available for the temporary exhibition (which was the "Kaiju Theater" when I visited) at ¥600 and for the permanent exhibition on the upper two floors at ¥1000. There is also a discounted ticket for all floors at ¥1200, which I would recommend to first-timers.

Even when you travel by public transport, it is easy to reach by bus from the Kurayoshi Station. Twice a day there is also a bus that goes to and from Gōshō Aoyama Manga Factory in just thirty minutes, so it's easy to visit both in a single day. 本来ならば解体される予定であった古い校舎の存続策としてスタートしたミュージアム。 そのフォルムは円筒形の特異なもの。 中に入ると中央部分に螺旋階段が配置されていて、教室も扇形に配置されている。

1階では特別展示といった形で、様々なテーマに沿った展示が定期的に入れ替わる。

2階は常設展示として、様々な種類のフィギュア（主に海洋堂の手になるものと思われる）がテーマ別に部屋ごとに展示されている。（巨大な恐竜のフィギュアも鎮座しています。他に動物、ミリタリー、アメコミや日本の漫画、アニメのキャラクターフィギュア等々を展示） 昔々のファミコンも置かれていて実際にゲームカセットも置かれているので、自由に遊べます。 （ただし古いものなので接触不良で動作しなかったり不安定だったりもしますので接点をクリーニングしながら遊びました）

3階は体験教室（土日祝日だけかな）で、1階で購入したガチャで出てきた商品を使ってミニミニジオラマ的なものなんかを作れるようです。 特撮コーナーにはウルトラマンや東宝映画の怪獣たちのソフトフィギュアが大量に置かれていて、セットされているバックに合わせて自由にフィギュアをセッティングして写真を撮ることができます。 旧校舎の教室がそのまま残されている部屋もあって、当時の子どもたちが作成した自由研究の掲示を見ながら扇形の教室の雰囲気を味わえます。 また、倉吉の御当地アニメアイドル？のひなビタ♪ギャラリーも展示。

更に屋上にも上がることができて、円形の屋上から倉吉市内を一望できます。 当時の子どもたちは、こんな楽しい校舎で学べて楽しかっただろうなと思いを馳せます。 屋上の階段踊り場から下を見るとなかなかおもしろいですよ。

全部見終わったら1階に降りて、受付のある部屋はお土産売り場にもなっていますので、フィギュアや楽しいグッズに物欲を抑えるのが大変。 隣の部屋にもねんどろいどやらレアなフィギュアが置いてあるので、こちらも他ではなかなか手に入らないものだと思います。 物欲を満たしたらコーヒー販売機もあるので、一服しながらゲットした品々を見つつニマニマしましょう。 年間パスポートもありますので、年に3回以上訪れる方はそのほうがお得になります。
