Fantastic walk to bokke. Its probably the timing that we went. There are very few people around. This is taken in early feb.

The hike there is a short one amid the thick layer of snow. But its nothing a hiking boot cant handle. A perfect nice quite walk listening to the nearby birds and wildlife.

The mud volcano is very interesting and bubbly. You can hear it from my video. As you get closer, the sulphur smell gets stronger but its not too bad compared to mt lo.

At the same park area, i think it offers the best view of lake akan. Just at the corner you can see where the hot spring waters flows into the lake with steam still gushing out.

Overall its super peaceful...

We followed the path around, starting with the stairs to Akanko Inari Shrine, and then a narrow path through the forest and down the stairs. This sulfur-smelling place is especially fantastic for geologists (mud volcano) and biologists (rare species of crickets) with a very interesting history and a beautiful view of the lake. We returned along a wide promenade through the forest, where sika deer walked and the mud volcano fumes rose and danced in the rays of the sun, so we took...

We were too early for the boat ride around the lake and settled for a walk starting off from the nearby museum instead. Some parts of the forest were still covered with snow and were a pretty sight to capture on camera. It didn't quite prepare us for a breathtaking view of the frozen lake which was beginning to thaw. We then walked the trail through the forest returning via a flight of tori gates which was a refreshing way to...

There's paid parking near the visitor centre (500 yen) It's a short walk to the bokke. The trail is handicap friendly, and the trees along the way we're beautiful. You can smell the bokke before you see it. Manage your expectations. It's interesting but not spectacular. You can walk down a small trail to see more mud volcanoes down nearer to the lake bank. Views of the lake is not too bad too.
