It's a small annex to the Hana-yuka hotel, and overall is a good choice. It's right by the lake, and my room had a fine lake view. The bedroom was light and airy, well-heated, and pleasantly designed. Downstairs, the lobby was also a pleasant place to sit and read or use the WiFi (which doesn't reach the 3rd floor rooms, at least). The lobby has serve-yourself coffee and tea. There's free parking right outside.||Included in the package were breakfast, dinner and use of the Tsuruga onsen. Breakfast was better than average, and the dinner buffet was really rather good, especially for rural Japan. The spa was one of the best I've been to in Japan. ||The only slight downside was the Turano annex is unmanned except for around 3 p.m., the designated check-in time. But it's only a few yards across the street to the parent hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, if not particularly efficient.||There's one other good point about the Turano: because it's small, it doesn't get the Chinese tour groups which are the mainstay of tourism in Akan-ko. The big hotels seem to be taken over by these groups entirely, and so tend to be a little noisy, whereas the Turano was...

Read moreWe stayed at the Lake Akan Tsuruga Spa for just one night, but it was an amazing experience. The view from the lake side room was spectacular. The onsen was very clean, well organized and huge. The bathrooms were spotless, and the main bathroom off the foyer was the biggest and nicest one I've ever seen. The buffet supper and breakfast had a huge variety of items and were well presented and very tasty. The staff were polite and had lots of smiles! The carvings displayed in the hotel's gallery were really beautiful. The village itself is well worth a visit, with lots of gift shops to see and artisans that are at work as you stroll by. It was a real treat to stay...
