Habanobo was an excellent place to stay and experience a different side of Japan. The temple itself has been renovated and provides a clean yet traditional atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious and although vegetarian, I did not miss eating meat for the day. As for the hosts, they were very warm and welcoming. The head priest took time to specially explain the history and details of the the temples and surrounding area. When going into this experience keep in mind that while you will be comfortable it is also "no frills" so if you are expecting a traditional "ryokan" experience, this may not be the place for you. A certain level of introspection and respect is needed; however, if you go into it with that in mind you won't be let down.

We experienced our first "shukubo" and it was unforgettable amazing experience. All the staff, Monk Ken-san, his wife Sachi-san, Kyoko-san, was very friendly and kind. We did evening and morning service, and Monk Ken-san provided us with knowledge in depth answering all of our questions. Plant based dinner and breakfast was very delicious too. The view of Mt. Minobu and Mt. Fuji from the peak of Mt. Minobu was just stunning! We had a very calm but spirit-lifting time here. We would definitely recommend to come here, and we would love to come back again.

Der Aufenthalt war etwas ganz besonderes und hat uns unglaublich beeindruckt! Der Tempel liegt auf einem Berg mitten in der Natur. In dem Ort gibt es eine große Tempelanlage, die besucht werden kann. Die Unterkunft gehört einem Mönch mit seiner Frau, die unglaublich bezaubernd waren. Wir wurden herzlich empfangen und für uns wurde am Nachmittag eine Zeremonie im eigenen Tempel gehalten. Früh morgens begleitet der Gastgeber einen zu den großen Tempelanlagen in der Nähe, wo man an einer Morgenzeremonie mit vielen anderen Mönchen teilnehmen kann. Das war wirklich besonders und man sollte auf jeden Fall früh aufstehen und teilnehmen! Wenn man Japans traditionelle Kultur und den Buddhismus kennenlernen möchte, dann ist man hier absolut richtig. Seine Frau bereitet morgens und abends liebevoll das Essen mit vielen unterschiedlichen und leckeren Gerichten zu. Uns haben die Tempelanlagen, die Natur, die Zeremonien und vor allem unsere Gastgeber sehr berührt. Wir werden diesen Aufenthalt in wundervoller Erinnerung behalten und wir empfehlen diese Unterkunft zu 100% weiter!

The highlight from my Japan trip. Ken-san and his wife were so welcoming and very open to sharing their home and religion to me and the other guests. The location is perfect for a couple of days away from the big city and the home cooking topped it off. I will be back.
