A Tranquil Paradise of Lavender and Flowers - A Must-Visit Gem!

Rating: 5/5

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Furano Tomita Farm and I must say, it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. We decided to travel from Sapporo to Furano independently, without a tour, and it turned out to be a fantastic decision. Here's why I highly recommend this enchanting farm.

The journey from Sapporo to Furano via train was seamless, and despite the DIY approach, it was surprisingly easy to navigate. The round trip cost us around $160 SGD for two people, which was definitely worth it considering the total travel time of 3-4 hours each way.

During our trip, we made a delightful pit stop at Asahikawa station, where we savored our delicious bento while enjoying the serene beauty of a nearby park overlooking a picturesque lake. It was the perfect way to recharge before continuing our journey.

Upon reaching Nakafurano station, a pleasant 20-minute walk brought us to a mini version of Tomita Farm. Here, we embarked on a memorable adventure, riding a one-person cable car that took us up and down the rolling hills adorned with lavender and an array of vibrant flowers. The breathtaking views were simply awe-inspiring.

Our excitement grew as we strolled another 10 minutes towards Tomita Farm itself, where we were greeted by expansive hills and an enchanting landscape overflowing with lavender and a kaleidoscope of colorful flowers. The farm not only offered stunning visual delights but also produced a range of delightful lavender-based byproducts, including perfume, mist, and sanitizer, each capturing the fragrance of freshly picked lavender.

The entire journey, from the scenic walk to the immersive farm experience, was undeniably worthwhile. For those who don't mind the train travel and a bit of walking, I highly recommend taking the DIY approach. However, it's important to start your journey early to make the most of your visit.

For those seeking convenience, there are tour options available through platforms like Klook or other agencies, allowing you to explore this captivating destination with ease. Whichever option you choose, Furano Tomita Farm is an absolute must-visit.

One tip I would recommend is visiting on a weekday to fully appreciate the tranquil beauty of the farm without the crowds. This will ensure a more serene and immersive experience.

In conclusion, Furano Tomita Farm is a hidden gem that offers a serene escape into a world of lavender and colorful blooms. The DIY journey, the captivating views, and the delightful lavender byproducts make it an unforgettable destination. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting this paradise on earth for an experience that will leave you enchanted and refreshed.

If Provence took a summer fling with Hokkaidō, their love child would be Farm Tomita. Waves of lavender roll toward the Tokachi‑Daisetsu skyline, and the air smells like someone bottled calm and uncorked it over Furano Valley. But this isn’t just pretty purple—this is agricultural grit turned cultural icon. In 1903, Tokuma Tomita started breaking the wild land here; decades later, the family pivoted to lavender, riding Japan’s postwar perfume boom. When cheap synthetics crashed the market in the ’60s–’70s, Tomita didn’t fold—he doubled down, preserving fields that would become the postcard of Hokkaidō. A Japan National Railways calendar shot made the slopes famous nationwide, and the rest is perfumed history.

Furano’s bigger picture? This valley is the pantry of Japan—wheat, potatoes, sugar beets, beans, vegetables, and dairy—thanks to cold winters, long summer daylight, and volcanic soils. Hokkaidō was engineered into an agricultural powerhouse after the Meiji era push, with all the complicated settler‑colonial history that came with it. You’re looking at fields that fed a nation and reinvented a town.

Nuts‑and‑bolts for travelers: Peak bloom runs early summer through mid‑July vibes; come early for softer light and fewer tour buses. Grab lavender soft‑serve (yes, it works), then wander Lavender East—one of Japan’s largest lavender fields—and hop the seasonal Lavender Farm Station (F41) on the Furano Line when it’s operating. It’s literally a station built for flowers. Only in Hokkaidō.

Eat/Drink/Do: Soft‑serve, pastries, and drinks on site; dried‑flower and perfume corners feel like mini‑museums of scent. Come for the purple, stay for the story—how a farm outlasted global chemistry and turned crop rows into pilgrimage.

TL;DR: Farm Tomita isn’t a “photo spot.” It’s Furano’s living archive—a family farm that rewrote its fate and pulled a valley along with it. If Bourdain were here, he’d say: This is what stubborn looks like when it blooms.

🌸 A Living Masterpiece of Color and Fragrance

Farm Tomita is nothing short of breathtaking—a true wonderland where nature and artistry blend seamlessly. The iconic lavender fields, stretching endlessly in waves of purple, are the crown jewel of the farm. When the breeze flows across, the entire hillside dances with lavender fragrance, creating an almost dreamlike atmosphere. It’s not just a visual delight but also a sensory journey that stays with you long after you leave.

⸻

🌼 More Than Lavender – A Symphony of Flowers

What makes Farm Tomita truly remarkable is that it’s not limited to lavender alone. The farm carefully cultivates a wide variety of seasonal flowers, painting the landscape in ever-changing patterns of color. Stripes of scarlet poppies, golden marigolds, snowy baby’s breath, and vibrant cosmos form breathtaking “rainbow fields” that look like a living painting under the Hokkaido sky. Each section feels like stepping into a different garden, each with its own charm and beauty.

⸻

🌿 A Perfect Blend of Tradition and Care

Farm Tomita doesn’t just showcase flowers—it represents decades of dedication to preserving and celebrating Hokkaido’s floral heritage. Walking through its fields, you can sense the meticulous care behind every bloom. The farm also offers unique lavender-based products—perfumes, essential oils, soaps, and even lavender ice cream—allowing visitors to take home a piece of this floral paradise.

⸻

🌞 A Place to Slow Down and Feel Happiness

Above all, Farm Tomita gives visitors something priceless: a sense of joy and peace. Whether it’s gazing at endless rows of lavender, enjoying the sweet fragrance in the air, or simply standing still to admire the vastness of colors, the farm reminds us how magical nature can be. It is not only a feast for the eyes but also nourishment for the soul.

⸻

✨ In short: Farm Tomita is a place where flowers speak the language of beauty, harmony, and happiness—a destination that leaves every visitor inspired...
