This place is the epitome of warm hospitality, amazing lodging, and delicious food. During our stay in Hokkaido's cold winter, the Northern Star Lodge really warmed me and my family's hearts. A huge thanks to Kato san and Michiko san for taking such great care of us and providing us with such an unforgettable b&b stay. My family of 4 stayed in the cabin which was in a clean and pristine condition. The beds were comfortable, the toilet was clean, and the pinewood interior and furnishings had a homely feeling. Situated on a hill, we had sweeping views of Nakafurano and the mountain ranges. I loved waking up early to catch a glimpse of morning sunrise. Location was great, it wasn't too isolated nor in a busy area. All of the Biei and Furano attractions were about 20-30mins away by car which was convenient! We had a half board meal plan and the food is really mind blowingly delicious. The photos should speak for themselves. Everything was prepped by Michiko san and it was phenomenal. We also loved the smoked cheese which Kato san made! Across all my trips to Hokkaido, this 3d2n stay with Northern Star Lodge is probably the best highlight I've experienced. And I will definitely want to stay again during spring/summer and enjoy the beauty that Furano has to offer. 11/10 stay!

- The best lodging. 1/2 to 1/3 the price of the so-called 'auberge' in the neighbourhood, but more than worth it. You can meet adorable Ezo squirrels through the lounge window. You can watch two baby goats from the window of your room. The garden is manicured with flowers and looks like the Austrian Tyrol. Dinner is not made from expensive and presentable ingredients, but I was impressed by the time and proper preparation of all the dishes. The Kamifura pork in the photo is much more magnificent in person than in my photograph. In addition, the hostess's knowledge and experience of alcohol seems to be considerable, and the wines recommended were excellent. I can see that she is probably the type of person who has mastered the art of cooking in order to drink well. The rooms are not large in area but have high ceilings and the beds are comfortable and of the right size. Perhaps because it is a newer lodge, no insects came in, even when sleeping with a screen door. For breakfast, I thought (rudely) from the photo that it would be the kind of thing you often get at "minshuku", but I was surprised to find that the cooked Nanatsuboshi brown rice was really tasty. I shouldn't have judged it by its appearance. All of the famous tourist attractions are just a short bicycle ride away. And the host couple were very kind and made our trip a wonderful experience. Some people seem to visit this place more than once, even though there are plenty of lodges/hotel around. I believe there is a good reason for that. Thank you so much for your hospitality, .

Came here from the US for a ski trip and had the BEST time! The owners are so welcoming and lovely, they go out of their way to accommodate. The food is 5 stars - the best we had in Japan and all made from scratch, so much food and variety with every meal! The best sake of my life was here and the wine excellent. The skiing and Onsens are a quick and easy drive and are amazing. This is a truly beautiful and special place. Don’t believe the reviews that aren’t 5 stars, if you don’t speak Japanese and there’s miscommunication just pull out google translate- their English is quite good so probably won’t even need! If I have the good fortune to return to to Hokkaido this is where I will stay!

This place was the hidden gem on our travel in Japan. The family that owns the place is so nice and helpful and the food was out of this world. It’s very close to the next ski resort and hiking places. A must when you are planning to go to Furano.

Lovely lodge in furano, well maintained. Opt for their dinner and breakfast package and it’s superb. Freshly made by owner everyday. ❤️❤️❤️ The view during winter is awesome, we love our 3N stay. Will come back again if we have the chance ❤️
