Magome is a post town in Kiso Valley We walked from Kiso Fukushima to Magome through the Nakasendo trail. ( takes 4-5 hours) A convenient access to the town is from Nagoya station. From Nagoya station you should go to Nakatsugawa by train and then to Magome by bus.( don’t forget to check the bus schedule) The town itself is so beautiful full of seasonal flowers and many waterwheels. The main street is lined with wooden Edo style buildings. Plenty of shops selling local products and souvenirs but many of them do not accept credit cards. Also number of ATMs is limited and there is a no super market in the town. ( the closest one is 5 min by car) There are some roofed rest areas in the main street with free wifi. You can buy the Nakasendo trail walk certificate from tourist information in Magome and receive the...

There are a few free public carpark around here. It is a good place to park your car and start the trek to Tsumago, which we did, and take the local bus (4 trips a day, 800yen flat rate and can be very crowded) from Tsumago back to Magone, where you have quite a few restaurants and food choices. After filling up your tummy, take a short walk through the Magone post town and back to where you park the car.
Note if you can't get on the bus for whatever reasons, taking taxi back to Magone can cost you 5000yen. The alternative? Back track up the...

It's around 7km from one village to the other. We didn't get to the other village since locals discouraged us from doing the hike in the snow. Very nice and quaint area, with lots of good photo...
