Kegon Waterfalls Paid Elevator — Attraction in Nikko

The paid elevator descends about 100 meters underground and offers fantastic close-up views of Kegon Falls that you simply can’t get from the top viewing areas. It’s perfect for photography and gives you a completely different perspective of this impressive waterfall. The pricing is quite reasonable, making it an affordable addition to your Nikko itinerary.

Note that the Nikko Pass doesn’t cover this attraction, so budget separately for the elevator fee. Still, given the unique vantage point and photo opportunities, it’s definitely worth the extra cost when you’re already visiting Nikko. The view was amazing but happened to travel while there were many student on a school trip - so maneuvering the crowds and class/group pictures they were taking was a bit difficult. The shops and food before entering provided a nice variety of hearty miso soup, warm snacks and made the trip worth it. Parking was only 500 yen for several hours. It sound crazy to pay for an elevator ride but for a view of waterfalls that you will get I think worth it.

I came in the weekday of early winter when there are not much people visiting but the elevator is big and fast enough to bring crowds to the observation deck below.
