This place is a legendary find in a not so obvious locale. My travel group and I had spent the previous day eating some of the finest offerings Tochigi prefecture has to offer. We spent tens of thousands of Yen on delectable tochigi beef and set course meals containing the best the chefs have to offer. Of course everything was fantastic, however this quick throwaway stop we made between viewing the beautiful Kegon falls, and catching our bus back to Nikko touched our tastebuds in just as profound of way as everything the day prior combined. We believe wholeheartedly, that if the fried chicken offered here were available in the United States of America it would upend the entire fried chicken market, likely bankrupting several franchises. There is a sign out front, advertising the goods the food stall offers, that displays the chicken with a tag line claiming it to be juicy, that is a gross understatement. The chicken being served up by this fine establishment is dripping from end to end in succulent chicken goodness that leaves you craving for more and more and more. I think it not too far a stretch to say, that the chicken themselves are honored to be prepared into this delectable serving, and would willingly volunteer to make that long final trip off the farm to be part of this operation. I will long for that kind of quality in my chicken for years to come, until the time I feel worthy to return and...

Tucked away in the serene embrace of the mountains, Kegon Falls Tsumikko is not just a waterfall — it’s a moment suspended in time.
As the water plunges dramatically from the cliff, a soft veil of mist rises and dances through the air, creating an ethereal, dreamlike atmosphere. The cool mountain breeze carries the scent of earth and stone, and everywhere you look feels like a living painting. Especially during early morning or late afternoon, the mist blends with the light to form a natural canvas of magic and mystery.
One unexpected delight? The grilled river fish sold at a humble stall near the viewing area. Skewered and cooked slowly over charcoal, lightly salted, the fish is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside — simple, rustic, and deeply satisfying. Enjoying it while gazing at the waterfall below, with mist curling at your feet, is one of those rare travel moments you’ll never forget.
Kegon Falls Tsumikko isn’t just a place to visit — it’s a place to feel. To pause. To breathe. If you’re exploring Japan and crave a taste of raw, untouched nature, this hidden...
