７月中旬の曇りの日に訪問。午後便のクルーズが欠航のためせっかくなので付近を散策。けっこう危なさそうな岩の真ん中に柵があったのでそこをつかまりながらギリギリのところまで足を進めた。足元要注意して歩きたい。 亀岩よりも真ん中の岩が犬に見えて気になった。

堂ヶ島の代表的なジオサイトのひとつで、甲羅から亀が顔を出したような形をしている岩です。亀の甲羅にあたる部分まで歩いて行けるので、観光客に人気のスポットとなっているようです。ただ亀の甲羅の部分は結構な急勾配となっているので要注意です。海底火山の噴出によって引き起こされた水底土石流の堆積層とのことで、溶岩から火山灰まで含まれているとのことです。大きく重たい岩ほど先に海底に沈むため、亀島の下から上に向かって岩の大きさが小さ...
