Nishinoshima Furusato-kan Museum — Attraction in Nishinoshima

We visited the Ninshinoshima Museum on a rainy day and we had such a great time. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the lady at the reception, who also showed us around the first floor. Communication was no problem as she used a translator and also on the upper floor, many English translations were available for the self-guided tour. The exhibition was both interesting and versatile. We learned a lot about the history of the Oki Islands, from prehistoric times until modern days, the origin of local traditions and local food. This was the most interesting regional museum I've visited in Japan. There are plenty of well written explanations in English detailing the history and traditions of the islands....

竹島に関する資料がすこしある。ここでも、島根県が制定した「竹島の日」に対して政府は二国間の国際関係の悪化を懸念して嫌な顔をしたという話を聞いた。この話は、島根県ではわりと有名なようで、あちこちで聞ける。こういった政府の姿勢を見ていると、国土防衛が他国任せになっている日本の脆弱性が窺える。ちなみに、竹島を含めて、隠岐の島をジオパークとして申請したところ、ユネスコによって却下されたという話も聞くことができた。島民からも、竹島については怨嗟の声が上がっている。西ノ島にも竹島で漁をしていた人たちがいたのである。隠岐の島のひとたちにとって、はまさに生活がかかっているのである。 さて、ここの二階には「ラーゲリより愛をこめて」でも出てくる遺書の全文が掲示してあり、一階には島の歴史に関する資料の展示が行われている。 後醍醐天皇の資料室との共通券を購入すると100円お得。さらに高校生大学生は100円割引となっている。資料の...
