Cafe Haru — Restaurant in Nishinoshima

I had a great stay at this minshuku located near Beppu Port on Nishinoshima (the island's local tourism office assisted me in making the booking through their website). ||||The couple that runs Cafe Haru is very kind and welcoming, and each included meal (breakfast and dinner) had a generous spread of fresh seafood and other local dishes. Some of the best food I've had during my travels in Japan! ||||There is only one guest room (suitable for solo travelers or small groups). It is Japanese style so the futon bedding is laid out on the tatami mat floors. There is an attached bathroom and toilet with modern facilities. I really enjoyed soaking in a nice hot bath after a day of trekking and cycling around the island. ||||Nishinoshima is a wonderful destination well off the beaten tourist trail, and I would heartily recommend any visitors to the island to stay...

We stopped at Cafe Haru hoping to taste some of their delicious pancakes but the sign said ‘closed’ although it was open according to the Google maps schedule. The lady kindly let us in and said there were only 2 options for lunch (ginger pork and squid set lunch). And that they no longer make pancakes. We showed them a picture of the pizza on their Google maps site and she agreed to make one. It was good! I am not sure if this was only temporary but i got the impression they no longer operate as elaborately as i expected from reading all the reviews. Very...
