旭山記念公園レストハウスぽるく — Attraction in Sapporo

A great place to see Sapporo at night. Free and easy to get to!

After having visited this place, I couldn’t deny that one of a must-go sightseeing spot in Sapporo is Asahiyama Memorial Park. It is one of the top three new night view observation spot of Japan. To start off with, Asahiyama Park is opened in the year 1970 to celebrate Sapporo’s 100th anniversary. It is located 137.5 meter above sea level. Hence, the panoramic scenery from the position of the park is very far and wide. I could see the whole western extremity of Sapporo city from up above. The park is decorated in form of nice sculpted garden, which would be perfect relaxing spots for lovers or family.

Asahiyama Mountain is surrounded by couples of other mountain, each with great panoramic landscape. One of them is Maruyama Mt. in which we have already hiked up to the top during our first week in Sapporo.

Having seen both the view during the day and night time, I would say that both views are eye-catching and very beautiful. During the day time, especially at dawn, the sky turns pinkish orange as the sun started to go down. Looking at the city with the horizon as background takes my breath away. In contrast, once the sun goes all the way down, the sky turns dark as city lights start to shine little by little until the city is full of colorful small light bulbs which lighten the city as if it will never sleep. The night view gives the feeling of fun yet peaceful and relaxing as we look into it.

Of course, since we are already at the Asahiyama Memorial Park, it is a must for us to drop by a nice cafe and enjoy the view up here. The cafe we picked is called High Grown Cafe. High grown cafe is located at the mid high spot of Moiwa Mt. which is just beside Asahiyama Mountain among couple other mountains around the area. High Grown Cafe is a chain cafe from Miyakoshiya Coffee. The cafe has only 4-5 tables, all beside the window so every customer can enjoy top view of Sapporo city. Not as cold as when we are outside, I found sitting in such a warm cafe, taking a sip from my cup of tea, and looking at a beautiful city view is so relaxing that I couldn’t resist to come back here again.

Now, you might already wonder how to get to such an amazing spot like Asahiyama Park. Not hard at all! Just 15 minutes by car from central Sapporo will get you there.

「外の飲食用の木製テーブル」には犬のリードを固定できるリングがあるので、愛犬をそばに置いて飲食できますよ。

余談ですが、芸能人が公園内での撮影に来た時には、時間を延長して営業していた時がありました。
