This shrine shared some similarities to a Kyoto shrine my partner had good memories of. So we decided to go out for a visit!
We took bus 56 from the downtown Sapporo area, which made it very easy to access this shrine. The bus doesn’t run very often however.
The shrine had a gorgeous tori gate lineup on a semi-steep hill. If you are unable to handle ice or snow, it is difficult to climb. There is nothing to hold onto.
The shrine itself was quaint and quiet. Since it is outside of the city, it made for a really nice outing from the city noise.
It also has a nice shrine store with some cool trinkets. It was sold out of Kitsune statues but it did have a few dragon statues and several charms. The cashier seemed like the daughter of the family, I assume. She seemed like every other kid who is told to take care of a store as a chore - which perhaps answers why so many reviews disliked the service. Personally, I don’t really mind. She was efficient and quick.
I didn’t make this 5 stars because it is missable. There are plenty of lovely shrines to visit around Sapporo. But we did enjoy our outing. As a bonus, there is a SUPERB restaurant across the street that was delicious for lunch. It opens at 11:30AM and was really busy with locals.
PS I bought a year of the dog charm at this shrine - later that day, I found a U.S. dollar on the ground. Perhaps the spirits at this shrine are exceptionally generous. Either that or not taking photos/video actually did...

All in all, we will recommend to drop by, especially in the morning and grab that quick shot by the entrance. One of the best hidden unshared locations by travel agents, tour...
