Shifukuji is a quiet temple located in the hilly Kitayama neighborhood of Sendai. For most of the year, it attracts few sightseers. Tall bushes of the beautiful blue and violet flowers grow in large numbers along the path leading to the temple and in the temple garden, making the grounds feel like heaven’s doorstep. Along the pathway to the temple and in its garden, you'll enjoy beautiful colors of light purple, violet-blue, pale pink, yellow green or pure white. It is one of the five Date clan family temples feudal lord Date Masamune placed in the north of the city. It has helped protect the residents of Sendai since the early 17th century.
