Beautiful temple! Thousands of Hydrangeas blossom here! Worth visiting in June or July for Hydrangea viewing! Parking is available in the premises! ACCESS: By CAR, It is 15-20 min drive from Sendai Station. By subway: 15-minute walk from Kita-Sendai Station (Sendai Subway Namboku Line) By bus: 5-minute walk from Kitayama Ichichome (北山一丁目) bus stop.

Shifukuji is a quiet temple located in the hilly Kitayama neighborhood of Sendai. For most of the year, it attracts few sightseers. Tall bushes of the beautiful blue and violet flowers grow in large numbers along the path leading to the temple and in the temple garden, making the grounds feel like heaven’s doorstep. Along the pathway to the temple and in its garden, you'll enjoy beautiful colors of light purple, violet-blue, pale pink, yellow green or pure white. It is one of the five Date clan family temples feudal lord Date Masamune placed in the north of the city. It has helped protect the residents of Sendai since the early 17th century.

If you love hydrangeas, you can not miss this temple. Come and visit and take plenty of pictures and share with us.

Spread love and kindness. Take cautions against COVID-19. Follow covid precautions based protocols!

Shifukuji Temple is one of the so-called Five Zen temples in Kitayama area in Sendai City.

The Temple does have its garden, although when it is compared to Rinnoji Temple, relatively it seems to emphasize nature of the trees and plants without much unnecessary trimming, pruning, or cutting. It appears that the Temple tries to let its trees, especially bamboo trees] and plants grow naturally within the garden border fences of each individual section.

When we visited there on weekday, the doors of main worship hall were closed, probably due to occasional rain of that day.

The Temple is open for free access and the Temple is neighbored with Rinnoji Temple. Both Temples do not have many visitors in weekdays. It takes about 15 minutes walking from Kita-Sendai Station [Station Number N-06] on the Sendai Subway (Exit...

Small and relatively little known, this small temple is a surprise very close to the better known Rinno-ji.

We went in summer when all the surroundings were full of flowers and even getting there was beautiful.

Also because of that, be prepared for mosquitoes, as they are part of...
