This review is specifically for the Tower of the Sun Museum. I have no quarrels with the rest of the park. It was lovely.
First, let me say that the Tower of the Sun, and the Tree of Life inside are beautiful works of art. I love Okamoto Taro and enjoyed the work itself.
Upon entering I was told by multiple staff that photos were only permitted on the first floor. I indicated to them that I understood the rules. When I reached the stairs to go up to the second floor I had shut my phone and put it away in my hand at my side, in order to follow their photography rules, but I was then stopped by their staff and asked to put my phone away INSIDE my backpack. He waited on the stairs until I had done so.
When I got further up the stairs and encountered other (Japanese) people, I noticed that they had phones and cameras slung around their necks and very clearly had not been asked to put them away inside their backpacks as I had.
The staff clearly assumed that because I was foreign, I wouldn't be able to be respectful enough to follow their rules, even though I had done nothing to indicate anything but compliance.
It seems like a small thing, but it was racist and I couldn't enjoy enjoy the rest of my time there because of it.
It seems funny that a museum in honor of a work of art that was created for a World Expo, in which people of all cultures are supposed to gather in harmony would be such a...
Read moreThe tower is well worth visit, and I’d recommend you to go inside - there was an exhibition related to evolution of species, which honestly didn’t impress me a lot, just figures of animals like in a children amusement park, standing on branches of the tree of evolution. You go up and around them, ascending from prehistoric to current times. BUT! Upstairs, you also have an inside view of both hands of the tower, it was very impressive, very futuristic and cosmic in a sense. Like you are inside of some alien spacecraft. Highly recommend!
We went on Monday afternoon and waited 1 and half hour to go inside, because slots were full. You don’t need to wait a lot in a queue, it’s just slots are for later time, we bought tickets on the spot and went for a walk before returning back for our slot time. The park is beautiful, there is a lot to see! So it didn’t feel like...
Read moreIf you're planning a trip to Osaka during Expo 2025, make sure to carve out time for a visit to the Tower of the Sun in Expo ’70 Commemorative Park. Designed by avant-garde artist Tarō Okamoto for the original Expo ’70, this 70-meter-tall sculpture is more than just a landmark—it’s a powerful symbol of Japan’s artistic and cultural legacy.
The tower features three distinct faces: The Golden Mask at the top represents the future. The Face of the Sun on the front symbolizes the present. The Black Sun on the back reflects the past.
Whether you're an art lover, history buff, or just looking for a photogenic spot with depth, the Tower of the Sun delivers. With Expo 2025 reigniting interest in Osaka’s visionary spirit, there’s no better time to visit this...
