The boat tour must be THE highlight of our visit to Tochigi city, and the best attraction in the Kuranomachi area.
For just 1000 yen per adult, we were able to experience riding a boat that was similar to what one would get punting in Cambridge, but the boat was punted by a driver who worked for the boat company. While punting on the surface of Uzuma river, the driver (in Japanese) introduced how the river was significant to the local economy and trade in ancient times. As our tour took place in late winter/early spring, there were many migratory ducks from Siberia in the area, and tourists could buy some tiny round-shaped feed for those ducks.
We took the last boat service of the day, and the driver gave us a complimentary pack of duck feed. We had fun throwing these goodies for those cute little ducks.
