If you want to rub shoulders with the locals definitely come here to experience this japanese bath house culture. I came around 10pm on a Friday night and it was semi busy, But the owner was very friendly and helpful and had an English paper explaining the payment options, so not too much issues if you aren't fluent in japanese.
Another big plus, I have a fist sized tattoo on my shoulder and no one minded, which was awesome. I know there's many places in Tokyo that don't accept tattoos, but this one was fine. Though I was being considerate enough to not flaunt it around too much.

For first timers take your shoes off at the door and pop them in a box. Grab a number. Take it to the counter. And you can pay for sauna or just spa. You can get soap and shampoo and towels for a little extra. I think it was about 600 yen all up. And just follow what others do.
