Sakura-zaka — Attraction in Tokyo

The Sakurazaka Slope, located a few minutes walk from Numabe Station on the Tamagawa Line, is an ordinary residential area during most of the year but comes alive with cherry blossoms during the Spring season. It was featured in a popular song by Masaharu Fukuyama, and as a result has become a popular destination during the ohanami season which typically runs between late March through mid April.

The street running through the area is lined with 20 cherry trees, and has a bright red pedestrian bridge which connects both sides of the incline. When the cherry trees are blooming, festive lights are on display, creating a beautiful and romantic atmosphere. The road itself used to be part of the original Nakahara Kaido Highway, and was renovated in 1923 to its present condition. 東急電鉄多摩川線・沼部駅から歩いて５分強くらいで、駅前から続いている「桜坂通り」を直進した「さくら坂」交差点の先にある、ゆるやかな坂が桜坂である。 また、東急電鉄池上線・雪谷大塚駅から歩いて１５分弱くらいで、中原街道を川崎方向に１０分強くらい歩いたところにある「田園調布本町」信号を左折し、２～３分くらい歩けば桜坂の上に出ることができる。 また、東急電鉄東横線・多摩川駅からも少しクネクネしたルートとなるが歩いて１０分強くらいでアクセス可能である。 この桜坂という坂名は、坂道の両側に大正時代に植えられた桜にちなむものであるという。 俳優としても歌手としても長きにわたり絶大な人気を誇っている、あの福○雅○さんの名曲「桜坂」のモチーフになったスポット、まさにここが桜坂なのである。 福○雅○さんがデビュー前にこの近所に住んでいたことから、当時の思い出や心境を綴ったと言われていること、また、あの曲がテーマソングとして創作された番組のロケ地がこの桜坂であることは有名ではないだろうか。 この桜坂は以前から、桜のお花見の観光名所として東京では有名だったのだが、モデルとなったあの曲が２０００年に発売された途端に一気に注目が集まり、その知名度は全国的なものとなり、桜の季節のお花見客みならず、ファンの方々が１年中訪れる聖地となったのである。 あの曲がラブソングだったこともあり、この桜坂はデートスポットとして有名になり、坂の上にかかる橋・桜橋（さくらばし）の上で記念写真を撮るのが、桜坂デートの定番スタイルとな...
