I'm not really a "bonsai person", so I feel like I didn't appreciate the museum fully. We just showed up and walked around and really enjoyed ourselves. The missing star is because there's not much information about the trees as you walk around... No description of the age or species. When we were leaving we heard a group tour (not sure how they got a group tour...) guide mention one of the trees was over 1000 years old. Incredibly awesome! but I wish the trees had placards or something. We went when it was raining, so maybe the staff were walking around a bit less.
With that said, there are tons of beautiful bonsai trees here. If you are into bonsai trees, they have classes, and one of the world's best bonsaiers runs the place. There are photos of a few famous people (A list actors, worlds (formerly?) richest person) who have visited, which definitely drives the point home that it's a special place.
There are bonsai trees and pots, as well as books and other stuff for sale. There are also very friendly (and English speaking) staff/apprentices who can help...

As a result, be patient if it's lunchtime; we had to poke into the garden a little to be seen by someone who could take our admission fee. It's not like a standard museum where there's a lobby etc; you literally just enter the garden.
The only downside is there is no information on the specific trees and it's completely self-guided. We didn't have an issue with that, but if you prefer a guided tour this may...
