Great museum. There is a large outdoor area, a craft house, and the main building consisting of two floors. Baby pram/strollers and wheelchairs are available to borrow, if you ask the Information desk which is just past the entrance. There is a cafe, but anybody is welcome to sit down in the lounge area and in the very far right side there's a children's area (you must take off your shoes). Throughout the museum, there are small activity stations, all related to the nature and animals in Takao. Many volunteers walk around explaining the displays & exhibits. In the very back there is a large wall with all the different specifies of animals living in Takao. This area is also actually a screening room. Short projection movies play here about every hour or so (there is a time table). It is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Highly recommend. They also do many free events, workshops, and even a DIY corner (about 1,000yen pre craft with visiting craftsmen/artists. The only thing is that most of the museum is in Japanese. All the wall displays have English, but otherwise I think it's best to have a translation app or even better - someone who can...
Read moreThis is the museum located at the foot of Mt. Takao. The museum exhibits mostly the nature of Mt.Takao, such as plants, insects, and animals. I like how plants are exhibited. The plants are pressed in a clear glass. It looks like stylish decor. The museum is very spacious. There is a cafe in the same space. Today, I ordered cheese cake and coffee. In the garden, there was a manmade stream, and children played in the water. Most of them were drenched. I think that would be quite fun for them.
The admission is free. I think it is a good place to take a break after...
Read moreWhat a great modern museum. Not only does it show you all the different types of plant and animals gang live on Takao mountain, but it gives you an idea of what to look for before you take your hike up mountain Takao. The reason it's called 599 is because that's roughly how tall the mountain is, which I wouldn't of known if I didn't stop by the museum. I also want to give credit to Airbnb experiences, because I had a guide who took us up the mountain and the knowledge that he had made the experience that much better. Definitely stop by the museum before climbing up...
