I found the staff incredibly helpful even months before I arrived. Giving me precise directions from the airport with several options, prices and exact time frames. (Unfortunately after asking the airport information desk, they gave me contradictory directions which got me embarrassingly lost at night, on the wrong trains as the area ITABASHI is big. I was totally jetlagged and embarrassed to bug a person on the train for help, she was awesome!!) Lesson learned. (Stick to the direction options the people who know give, even if YOU don't understand the unfamiliar transport script because it's a new place)
My stay was very pleasant! It is very clean with exception to some other guests who sometimes don't entirely respect the rules. But those things happen.
I would prefer fresh air circulating the room rather than Aircon as it's not humid in Tokyo yet. But some guests leave the Aircon and lights on all the time even when absent during the night. The Aircon in my room seemed to have a slight cigarette smell , which only I seemed to notice. It didn't bother anyone else. I was relieved when someone switched it off because of the noise ( I didn't even know it was an option) when one shares a dorm, you never know.
The actual area here in a part of ITABASHI is like a small village, with a town atmosphere. Like many places in Tokyo. But all different. Lovely. Close enough to be almost central. Easy to get to from the train station which is very close to the accommodation. Not far to commute to central Tokyo. I'd definitely recommend it for the traveller on a small budget who wants a peaceful area to stay. It's a great deal! Id go back on my next...
Read moreIf you're traveling alone or with someone else, this is definitely a great place. The Guest House is the cheapest you'll find that has service this good. The building was a little cold, but the beds were soft & warm, and each has their own light and two USB plugins. ||||The common room was a good place to relax. Here you can find manga (One Piece & Slam Dunk being notable ones), a few games, and travel guides in multiple languages, as well as having two fridges & a microwave. They also provide you with cups and cutlery. And it's in close proximity to a train station, a few convenience stores, and a couple nice little restaurants. Also definitely check out the bakery Antendo that's on the way to the station. It's only four short stops from Ikebukuro, so if you wanna save some money on lodgings, it's worth hanging out in a quiet area like this. By the way the hostel does have safes for small valuables, but it's in plain view of the ground floor window, so be careful to cover your combo up. It should go without saying, but this place is also super clean and I'd definitely come back to this place should the occasion...
