One of the coolest museums in I’ve seen in Japan. Had no idea sand sculpting was such an interesting art. Artists from around the world create the works displayed at the museum. And it changes each year. They have posters on display of previous themes based on regions in the world. I went during the South Asia theme, which ended in January 2020. You can get close enough to touch the works, which of course you can’t touch them because they are sand. Talk about impermanent art. After walking around among the sculptures, go up to the next floor to view it from above. The place is actually quite small, but so is the fee. It’s worth it. Take a walk outside, too, to check out a few more sand works protected only by tents. You can get a discounted Sand Museum ticket with the tourist Loop Kirinjishi Bus pass bought at...
Read moreGreat sand sculptures made by an international team of artists,on display Both indoors and outdoors. Incredible how deep and detailed the sculptures are. The museum has some interactive activities available (festivals, concerts, hands on programs) which make the place attractive for different groups of visitors.this year the theme is South America, and so they even prepared a large variety of souvenirs originally from there. I went on a Sunday and the museum kept open for one hour after closing hours, receiving visitors until as late as 18:55hs... Very good service to the public. The only bad point is that when crowded it is really hard to take a nice picture with the Sand sculptures from the suggested spot...

This time it was France (probably because of the Olympics) and the sand art was simply mind blowing! The amount of detail in each piece is astounding! I also liked that on the second floor you can see images of old themes they did. they had a gift shop plus a sweets/omiyage shop right outside the building.
I think this is a wheelchair accessible spot, it had wide flat paths and an elevator...
