Unique enough for a visit in Japan, I think it's the only sand dunes? You can park on the opposite side of the road behind the shops for free, though I am sure in peak season it will be regulated. Do buy a souvenir or drink if you are using their parking space!

its still really interesting to go and see. the water looks nice and the dunes are nice and tall. just be aware if you have bad knees or an injury its extremely difficult to traverse the dunes.
