PROBLEMATIC AND DECEIVING RESTAURANT INSIDE THE MUSEUM: while the museum is sublime, this restaurant takes advantage of its sole presence inside the museum. The owners of the museum restaurant surely understand that museum visitors have no choice, and if they want to eat they must accept to go this museum restaurant. Inside the museum there are just two vending machines for drinks on the ground floor.
This museum restaurant has a long queue to wait and I had to wait about 30 minutes .
For 2000 yen I got a very deceiving food :
a very tiny and microscopic appetizer with a little Madeleine biscuit of 2 cm length , a very little cube of tofu for less than 2 cm length and a very little cup of a very little pumpkin soup maybe of two inches of high. Unbelievable, not even in times of famine and economic crises I have seen that.
The "main" dish was a very little quantity of beef meat (two mini slices of beef, maybe 30 g. ) on some little quantity of vegetables, and a little tiny bread of three inches. This reminded me the stories on the tiny meal of the manga girl CHIBI MARUKO.
The dessert was not serious , as 400 yen for a very little glass of a cream with some sirop , full of sugar and "with the taste of" strawberry and a cup of the worst coffee I have ever drunk in Japan: the coffee was particularly awful , as it had the taste of a kind of instant coffee, extremely bitter and acid . I was not able to drink all that coffee, I preferred to leave it in its cup.
This restaurant has been my worst experience in whole Japan since the year 1995. After visiting such a beautiful museum, my eating time in this restaurant made my whole day very bad and my mood was really bad .
I encourage the management of the museum and the Toyota Foundation to open an inquiry on the food quality and on the price policy of this restaurant that is a shame for Japan
. I encourage other customers sharing my bad experience to send a flood of protest letters against this restaurant.
I hope something must change in...
Read moreSignage to the museum is very confusing if you are on foot. It shouldn’t be that hard. The way I finally found didn’t have a footpath most of the way, so it mightn’t even have been the route.
The permanent collection is scant, but boy is it quality. Had a few wow moments.
The temporary exhibition on at present is “Escher, Behind the Paradox”. It was a joy to see such a range of his work from the different stages of his career. However, the interps is largely in Japanese, so be prepared to use Google Translate a fair whack to get the most out of it.
Service is exemplary at the museum restaurant, but the food is uninspiring, sadly. Go for a drink to experience a crack team...
Read moreIf you appreciate art, architecture, and culture, the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art is a must-visit destination in Aichi Prefecture. This museum is not just a place to view art—it’s an experience that blends stunning modern design with a carefully curated collection of Japanese and international masterpieces.
One of the highlights of the museum is its architectural brilliance. Designed by Yoshio Taniguchi (who also designed the expansion of MoMA in New York), the museum’s minimalist aesthetic and seamless integration with nature create a calming and immersive environment. The use of natural light enhances the beauty of the exhibits, making each artwork stand out in...
