Aqaba Fort (also known as Al-Fort of Aqaba or Aqaba Castle) is a historic landmark located in the heart of Aqaba, Jordan. This fort dates back to the Ottoman period in the 16th century and has played an important role in the region’s military history. It was originally built to protect the area from invaders and to control the strategic port of Aqaba. The fort features traditional Islamic architecture, including high walls, a central courtyard, and a tower that offers panoramic views of Aqaba and the surrounding areas. One of its most notable historical events was its role in the Arab Revolt of 1917, during which it was captured by forces led by T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia). Today, Aqaba Fort is a popular tourist destination, offering visitors a glimpse into the region’s rich history. It houses a small museum showcasing artifacts and historical exhibits related to the fort’s role in the Arab Revolt and local history. The fort is a great spot to explore for history enthusiasts and those interested in Jordan’s cultural heritage.

Aqaba Fort is a fascinating historical site that offers a glimpse into Jordan’s rich past. The fort is not very large, but it’s full of character and charm. Walking through its old stone walls, towers, and courtyards gives you a sense of the different civilizations that once controlled this strategic location, from the Mamluks to the Ottomans. The fort is well-preserved and easy to explore, with nice views of the surrounding area. It’s a quiet spot compared to other attractions, which makes it a peaceful place to enjoy. If you’re in Aqaba, it’s definitely worth a short visit to connect with the city’s.

It is a beautiful historical place to visit; it is a Mamluk and Ottoman fortified caravanserai on the pilgrimage route to Mecca and Medina, which, in its current form, dates back mainly to the 16th century. It was used significantly as a military stronghold in the century preceding the First World War. Clean and small, the remaining part is small but reflects how it was somehow. I don't like only the lack of a tour guide, and they are used partially as an art gallery for long-term artists, which shows less respect for such a great historical place.

The Aqaba Castle or Aqaba Fort (Arabic: قلعة العقبة, romanized: Qalʿat al-ʿAqaba), also known as the Mamluk Castle of Aqaba, Jordan, is a Mamluk and Ottoman fortified caravanserai on the pilgrimage route to Mecca and Medina which, in its current form, dates back mainly to the 16th century. In the century preceding the First World War, it was used to a larger degree as a military stronghold. In July 1917, the fortress was witness to a victory of the Arab Revolt, when this heavily defended Turkish stronghold fell to an Arab camel charge. Lawrence of Arabia rode triumphantly from here to Cairo to report the good news to General Allenby. The port of Aqaba became a major supply base for the advancing Arab Revolt. The fort is located next to the Aqaba Flagpole, which carries the flag of the Arab revolt against the Ottomans. A building adjacent to the fort, which in 1917 served as Sharif Hussein's residence, now houses the Aqaba...

Welcome to Fort Aqaba – Where History Stands Still (Because It’s Too Hot to Move)

Join us on a thrilling expedition to the legendary Fort Aqaba, where the walls have seen more action than your last group chat. Once stormed by Lawrence of Arabia (who probably also complained about the heat), this fortress now stands proudly next to a parking lot and a few determined cats.

Marvel at ancient cannons that haven’t fired in centuries, doorways that lead to... more doorways, and mysterious rooms that may or may not have been janitor closets in the Ottoman era. All this with the majestic Red Sea breeze and occasional Wi-Fi signal from the nearby café.

Tip: Bring water, a hat, and your best Indiana Jones impression. Sand gets...
