We stayed at Petra Neighbor Hostel for 3 nights in October. We booked this place via Booking after reading good reviews from previous guest.||Unfortunately our experience and so of the other couple staying a the same time wasn't as glorious as we would have expected.||||We felt uncomfortable.||||Please note it is a budget accomodation, hence don't expect any luxury service but more of a family style, homestay/guesthouse style.||||Pros of the property:||——||- It is a homestay, so you walk into a bedouin's house where the rooms are probably occupied in low season by the family.||- We were welcomed by the manager or the owner’s brother (not sure the brother of who really but he was lovely)||- We were shown rooms available 1 upstairs with ensuite, and 2 twin rooms downstairs with shared bathroom||- We were shown the shared kitchen and told we could use anything (ustensils and fridge)||- Were also offered the option of a traditional bedouin dinner for 10JD per person but we were not hungry and it was out of our backpacker budget. They also do breakfast but were not offered and it was too pricey for us. It was quoted on Booking at 10JD/pers/night||- The very plus of the place is the location and convenience (only 2 min walk to the supermarket and fruit market, 20min walk downhill to Petra visitor centre or 3min drive)||- The room has aircon, heating and electric blinds so you can have a comfortable sleep||- We were offered to move to the double bed room that was being freed on our 2nd night and the bed was large and comfortable.||- My husband got offered a glass of whiskey by the owner who was in the kitchen.||||||Cons:||__||The reviews talked about a very clean place, welcoming and informative, however it was not unfortunately our experience. We were actually surprised as we were expecting something different and felt maybe people were reviewing another place, or something must have happened with staffing during our stay that standard were not meeting previous guest experience.||||- We were unfortunately not provided with towels as advertised on booking.com, because we had no towels and the person who welcomed us was no longer here, we found clean towels in the bathroom cupboard. ||- When we moved rooms (from the twin to the double), bed sheets of the double room had not been changed from the people who left in the morning (spanish couple), we had to ask for the sheets to be changed. The guy grabbed crumpled sheets from the side of the room and put them on instead but did not change the pillow cover nor the fitted sheet (we slept in our silk travel liners). We also had to ask that they change the bed sheets from our previous room for the new guy arriving in the evening. There was no housekeeping done in either room (floor brooming for example - I don't know if there was a staff problem but this did not happen unfortunately)||- There were dirty clothes (a pants and women underwear) on the floor of the double bed room (maybe left by previous guest? again housekeeping should have removed this)||- It appears there are no daily housekeeping as per what is listed on Booking - in fact the house overall, kitchen and shared bathroom were not really clean and quite messy and you’d better walk with slippers/flip flop or your feet won’t stay clean long after your shower. The shower was dirty and clogged up with no bath mat, so wet all over - the toilet wasn't clean either, and we also had to look for where the toilet paper was when we ran out.||- While the WI-FI reception is good downstairs (it’s poor upstairs that’s why we took a room downstairs with shared bathroom), the internet connection is unstable and fairly slow. This is probably not the property's fault but more of a Petra issue, but just so you know if you require high speed it's better to rely on your 4G phone connection.||- We bought some groceries to cook our dinner however when we arrived in the kitchen the owner, who we met that night told us we shouldn't be using the kitchen to cook as they offer paid dinners to guest, and that when guest use the kitchen it gets dirty...This was not really what was listed on the property facilities. He said we could still go ahead as we had just bought groceries but didn't really make us feel comfortable in doing so.||- The listing said there is a shared lounge but we were not given access to it either as the owner was sleeping on the couch.||- On one evening because the manager was going out, we were also asked if we could welcome the upcoming guest, show them the room and take the money for the room O_O - we found this awkward, we didn't have to do it in the end as he was around the when the guest arrived.||||Overall we chose this property as the few reviews about the newly listed property were good and talked about good hospitality and cleanliness, but this is not our experience.||Something must have happened with staffing/management.||||It was uncomfortable and the other couple who stayed at the same time as us were appalled as well by the place. It is definitely budget accomodation but the least you would expect is cleanliness. I don't know if they had an issue with their housekeeping but I wish them to improve on this point and be clearer on facilities available to guest. ||||It was a shame and we wish them to improve as the location is definitely...
