Very surprised by high reviews - this was probably our worst food experience in Jordan for by far the most expensive restaurant we ate at in Jordan. Definitely aimed at tourists who arent familiar with how good and affordable Jordanian food can be, even at higher end restaurants. Service fee and tax is also not included in the high prices on the menu, which we also did not experience at any other restaurant we ate at in Jordan.
When we came to order, there was barely anything available on the menu despite the menu being quite large. My husband is vegetarian and the most options weren't available, but the waiter said a certain meat dish could be made vegetarian and that it was good, so we went with that based on his recommendation. My mansaf was nice (not much meat however, mostly rice for 14 JD), but his vegetarian dish was honestly terrible. Literally everything we have eaten in Jordan, especially veggie dishes, have been great so this was a big surprise. It was clearly intended to be made with meat, but was now just a white sauce with some sort of vegetable in it and was completely tastless and not filling at all - it was so bad we actually asked it to be removed from the bill. I have never done this in my life but couldn't justify paying when it had been recommended as a veggie option and the prices were so high at this restaurant when we knew how incredible and affordable Jordanian food is. The restaurant took it off after back and forth, which is the only reason I'm not giving a 1 star review.
Water was provided, and automatically added to our bill without asking. If you charge for something, you cannot give it automatically to guests and you need to make it clear this will be added to the bill. Again, nowhere else in Jordan did this. The waiter also said we will give you a salad, and offered three choices - this was phrased as if it was an inclusion to the mains (not unusual in Jordan). Instead, this was also added to the bill for 5.50 JD which was not made clear (many restaurants in Jordan will give bread, salads, a small snack etc for free and the way this was phrased it seemed this was included in our mains as a side, when it wasn't - we wouldnt have ordered it otherwise as 5.50 JD for a small salad is not what we are happy to pay). As said before, tax and service is then added on top. This is not the norm in Jordan, and just adds to an already very expensive meal. We only asked for the terrible main to be removed as I couldn't face fighting over the water and salad.
To indicate prices, a a glass of wine (very small glass) was 8 JD, and a tiny 330 ml beer was also 8 JD. Alcohol is expensive in Jordan but these were the highest prices we encountered. Sufra in Amman is around 6 JD for a large glass, for example. I've added the bill to show.
We were also one of only two couples dining there, so it may be that they are suffering from lack of tourists but ultimately with such high prices (highest prices we saw in any restaurant we ate at in Jordan) this comes with high expectations and we were really disappointed and can't recommend it when our hotel did any amazing meal for 12 JD with tonnes of sides and bread and Elan nearby does amazing big meals for 6 JD!
Review is long just because the really positive reviews generally are a massive surprise to me, given the price, lack of diners, and...
Read moreThe place has a nice ambience. The staff are kind. However, the set menu is very misleading. Upon arriving for lunch, we were told that this was the only option, and that this would include per person 2 salads, 2 appetizers, 2 main courses, and 2 desserts for 25 JOD each. We were assured that one of these meals would be all vegetarian. It turns out that this was not per person, but all to be shared, and they only had one vegetarian option for the main course, of which they served a half portion alongside meat dishes. When we raised the possibility of a discount at the end, since I could only eat a portion of what was served, the waiter spoke with the manager and communicated to us that we had understood wrong and that they had actually served us three main courses (one chicken dish, a half portion of soup with meat and a half portion of soup without). We tried to tell them that this was not clearly communicated but they would not budge. Other than that, the service was rather slow even though we were the only customers and we had to go to the kitchen to ask for the bill. The food was all okay, nothing spectacular, but we felt like we had been taken advantage of or fallen into a tourist trap. We paid 61 JOD for a meal that was not as good nor as plentiful as meals we had elsewhere in the city for...
